I will not be signing up to the esb network. I will buy a non EV instead.

We were in the process of trading in our car for an EV (jam 2016) but this announcement has changed everything.. We have no objection to paying for a charge but the standing charge of €17 per month is too high and 30c per minute for fast charge makes it a non runner... Beyond ridiculous

Hi as a ev owner I am seriously considering going back to an ICE. The charge is too steep for occasional use.

The optics of ESB price gouging ensure CANCELLATIONS of eCar orders. I got this from the inside.
In my own case I will have to pay fifteen times what I pay on my night rate, or seven times my day rate!!

We have just ordered an new Nissan Leaf for January 2016 delivery, this is quite a kick in the face for us a dn all current and prospective EV owners. 90% of our usage will be locally using home charge point,this will be our second car as we also have a petrol one. We wont pay the stranding charge - its a typical "Irish Joke" as EV owners are the punchline..... Dont mind paying for electricity used but a standing charge - and for what?? - its just another tax. Has to be "Pay as you Go", in its present form this proposal will kill off the EV market in Ireland

This seems to defeat the purpose of encouraging eCar ownership. I use a charge point at most 6 times a year. Paying per unit consumed would be reasonable but the flat fee with no pay as you go option is difficult to rationalize.

Rapid charge is extortionate which is making diesel / petrol options and the convenience an option to consider. In addition many charge points are placed in car parks that we also have to pay for so a double charge.

Why should we have to pay a monthly fee when we could go for a couple of months without useing public charde poinf.

The cost for rapid charge is crazy. We accept a time penalty with charging but making it the same price as petrol to got a distance is nuts. I have the option of a motorbike so would use that no charge time waiting around even for fast charge and more cost effective than the fast charge prices. (This is a sports bike which is saying something)
If this doesn't get changed I will seriously consider going back to petrol car in future. I can see why people are cancelling purchasing electric cars well done ESB. Like the port tunnel make the infrastructure and then price it to make sure nobody uses it.

ESB are forgetting that the MAIN reason for buying an electric vehicle is to cut down on running costs. So they decide to introduce a flat rate of 17 euro/month??!!?? and 30c/min fast charge fee ON TOP of this? I thought they wanted to INCENTIVISE electric driving? How is this 'incentivising EV adoption' when you are back to the running costs of petrol and diesel? The fee model HAS to be 'Pay as you Go', at normal electricity rates...anything else is just inflexible and idiotic.

Reason for buying nissan leaf was low running costs and the cost of running car offset some of the purchase price. Early adopters have put up enough of a shambolic service from the esb already. what is the point of a call centre when they do not contact Carra the people who repair the units. and the public have to pay for the privilige of reporting a problem with the infrastructure. Common sense would say price per kwh of about 20c for the fast charge point up to 30 min

I drive about 500 kilometres a week and I charge my car for about 25 minutes per day (roughly). I used to spend about €55-€60 a week on petrol. I charge my car at fcp 6-7 times per week as I don't have a home charging unit. It will now cost me €50-55 per week including the monthly €17 charge per month. How in the name of God does this make sense. ESB are probably going with the famous political approach any way. Lets tell everyone it'll be 30 cent a minute to charge your car then when everyone starts moaning we'll reduce it.
