I bought a EV Car early this year, and like it. But I for one will not be prepared to pay a fixed charge. I would not object to pay for the electricity used, but not a fixed fee.

Part of the joy of ev ownership is to keep down costs of motoring and reduce emissions to environment. Ev owners have put a lot of thought and research into their motoring choices. They are now let down by excessive ESB charges.

Im at a loss to understand a standing charge. Surely the principle must be the user pays. So why penalize infrequent users with a 203 euro standing charge. As someone who uses fast chargers for 20 min up to 30 times per year this increases transport costs by another 180 euro. Its hard to see why anyone would now buy an EV with the inconvenience of charging frequently and limited range. Difficult to see this move boosting EV sales.

I supply a charger for public use. I pay for the electricity used by EVs. I have willingly done this to encourage the spread of EVs. Will ESB now pay me ? This initiative is ludicrous and will be the kiss of death to the EV in

17 euro for all you can eat would be acceptable but considering the slow charge networks is useless 6 hrs till full is not practical

I agree that this need to be rethought as it defeats the incentive to move to electric cars and this is very much needed to reduce the use of petrol.

I was in the market for an EV in 2016, but plans are on hold now. This pricing is excessive for something I will need but not use every month.

No EV owner objects to a fair charge for electricity. However, the €17 charge every month for access - whether you charge or not - is simply taking advantage of a captive market who have no choice but to give in if they want to do longer trips. The FCP charge of 30c/min is up to 10 times the price charged at home - an obvious rip off, and again clear exploitation of a community who has no choice but to use the chargers.

I am now rethinking my EV purchase and looking at a more affordable alternative, this greedy grab for cash will cripple the Irish EV industry, the EV industry is dead in the water before it even had a chance to get off the ground, nice one lads.

I don't have an objection to paying for the electricity I use but the proposed system hasn't been thought through. A 30c per minute cost makes no sense. At different times during the charge my leaf draws different amount of power and not all models of car draw at the same rate. If it's dearer that diesel to use, (and it seems it will be) you've just killed the entire EV market and future. Please rethink.

As other more experienced signatories have pointed out, this vastly increases the cost of ownership. I am in the market for a new car and was seriously considering an electric vehicle. I'm now much less likely to consider an electric vehicle now.

Happy to pay for the cost of the electricity I use at public charge points, however I use them so infrequently that the monthly fee is basically extortionate and unjustifiable for low usage drivers.

Can you imagine the uproar if people had to pay a monthly fee to use petrol/diesel pumps?? You and the government need to get real if EVs are to make any impact on the Irish car fleet.

We all knew there was a charge for usage of public charge point coming, but a monthly subscription is just idiotic.
Infrequent users of the public (slow) charge points will simply not subscribe because of such poor value, and will instead cancel or find alternative transport for thos infrequent journeys which called for the slow chargers
The cost for the fast charge points works out at a more expensive rate than any petrol or diesel car I have ever driven (45min @ 30c for 140km is equivalent to 7.14 litres/100km @ €1.35 per litre of fuel). Our other car is a Ford Focus diesel which uses 5.1 litres/100km. Plus I don't pay a subscription charge to any fuel station for the privilege of filling my car with diesel.

So short sighted these prices. Charge less to encourage wider adoption, thus raising more money in the long term. Killing the EV in Ireland just as it was starting to really kick off!
