Rethink Drug Consumption Sites, Seattle and King County!

Why are we putting so little money toward actual detox and recovery, which are the only ways people can become unaddicted? Money would be much better spent on this, rather than on drug consumption sites.

We need a better alternative and much farther reaching program in order for Seattle to begin to accomplish tackling this epidemic. Families and friends are so much affected by what is happening in King County, injection sites are going to help. At some point we need to really take a hard close look at treating those affected it is time we as a society #Become the Change. Let's give hope and a different alternative by doing so society will benefit.

I agree 100% with prevention, detox and treatment being our focus, rather than enabling drug addicts.

Let's focus on prevention and treatment.

Drug treatment is the most important.

Please direct all available resources to prevention, detox, treatment and long-term support. Prioritize making help available NOW to all who need it.

Addicts need safer drugs, not safe consumption sites. Street drugs kill addicts and the drug trade fuels violence across the world.

Helping someone continue a habit, especially an ILLEGAL one is not helping them stop and clean up their life. It's wrong

Vancouver has had record setting levels of illicit drug fatalities while they have had injection sites. Help addicts in other ways but not this.

Provide all possible treatment before any drug consumption. Use the limited funds wisely!

Enforce laws and stop enabling drug use!

(from a Februrary 8th, 2017 King5 article) In a January 29, 2017 press release, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray opined: "My visit to Insite, Vancouver, Canada’s safe consumption site, made clear these sites save lives and that is our goal in Seattle/King County. Keeping people alive gives them the opportunity to get treatment and begin their path to recovery.” Murray’s ideology is an alternate reality, at odds with the truth. Insite user Bogdan Herindan tells the real deal: “Since all these supplies are free, what’s going to stop me from using more.” Vancouver, British Columbia has had the safe injection site since 2003. Despite the Vancouver facility, the area continues to fight a growing heroin problem. Vice News reports the following: “On April 26th, 2017, the infamous "Welfare Wednesday," when people get their monthly welfare cheques, there were a record 130 calls requesting emergency response for drug overdose in a single day. The previous record was recorded in November 20, 2016, with 121 calls reporting ODs in one day.” Supervised injection sites are simply not the best way to save lives, and slow the opioid crisis

Address addiction! More drug treatment sites! Housing and treatment support not enabling which helps no one.

Until there are enough detox/rehab beds available to those that want them on demand there should be no SIS. Extended resources for families, education to schools and children, and wrap around services should be priority.

We can't endlessly spend money on "harm reduction ". It's more enabling than anything

All the money should be going to prevention, detox, and treatment, not normalizing drug use.

Even recovered drug addicts say these sites are the worst thing we can do for addicts. It will also harm the community as addicts resort to a variety of crime to pay for their heroin. It will draw addicts from across the country, further harming Seattle. Please listen to taxpayers and stop this proposal.
