Rethink Drug Consumption Sites, Seattle and King County!

Prevention is the better option. I've witnessed what has happened in Astoria, OR and in Vancouver, BC w/r/t drug consumption as opposed to treatment and prevention. Do not make the same mistakes as these other cities.

they need to make places where they can go to get help to get off the drug, and help to turn their life around, Job training etc... not something that will help them keep using. Enabling them is the wrong solution.

This does nothing to heal the drug user and will bring crime and violence into the neighborhoods they are situated in. And guaranteed it won't be in the backyard of the mayor or any of the council members

Please stop enabling, and start empowering.

No- to Safe Injection Sites

Common Sense, First.

Drug abuse is a choice. That choice should not adversely affect where we live. For those people who would use injection sites (many more than once daily) it is my belief, many would likely live or camp in proximity to them. Given that case, injection facilities should be relegated to industrial areas…far from homes and children. They will certainly not be an asset to the community. Injection facilities will substantially adversely affect families and business activity. Municipal governments should not make a choice for any of us to live in proximity to drug abusers. Our families’ quality of life and property values will certainly take a substantial hit.

I strongly urge you not to consider Opening safe injection sites in Seattle. They since nothing and pull money and resources away from drug treatment programs.

No drug consumption sites please.

While visiting Vancouver, BC this winter, our family went to find a place to eat in Chinatown. We did not know about the drug consumption site that had moved into the neighborhood. What we found was a vastly altered neighborhood from the one we knew of 10 - 15 years ago. Instead of a thriving business area with multiple restaurants, we found many shuttered businesses and multitudes of people hanging out in doorways and alleys near the drug consumption site. The neighborhood was devastated, and we felt unsafe walking through the people huddled throughout the neighborhood who were clearly high on drugs. I do not want this to happen to any of our neighborhoods - it is not fair to place this burden in any part of the city or county. It is clear to me that siting a drug consumption site in any local will simply attract more addicts, and harm local neighborhoods and businesses. There is a better way, which is to direct the money to prevention and detox programs.

I can't believe the City would think about funding a drug injection location. Encouraging drug use, really?????

We can't as city members condone the injection of a drug that will take the life of the person we are "safely injecting" The is no safely injection a drug you know will eventually kill the person. Treatment is the only option to save their life

Enabling addiction does not help them, and will cost taxpayers more in the long run, because of having to pay for the affects of their drug use, health, home, and ..... Stop thinking short term fixes, and give them LIFE LONG ones!

Drug consumptions sites are just another bandage and a waste of money. If we want to see real change in homelessness and the drug epidemic we have change how we do things at every level. This includes legislature policies, court systems, etc. We are using systems that are decades old and they don't work for today's society. I agree with Corri, with long-term support most people addicted to heroin and meth will not make it after the traditional 30 day treatment.

STOP wasting our tax dollars on projects that are known to fail.
