Worst "professor" I had in the DC program. Suck it fat boy.

In my opinion Scott is the reason Depaul's digital cinema program was benifical to my education. The skills I learned in his course we're the only skills I was able to transfer into the working world of television. It shames me to think a person who meant so much to my profession development is being so easily dismissed. This is truly disappointing.

I have a job doing what I love thanks to Scott erlinder. He gave me the foundation in post production that I needed to. Be successful. He was the best most knowledgable digital cimema teacher I had at DePaul.

Founder of DePaul CDM, deserves tenure

Scott is an exceptional professor. Hands down, he is the most engaged with his students and makes a fundamental contribution to the continued success of the cinematography program.

As a DePaul undergrad, hoping to one day work in the film industry, Professor Erlinder was absolutely integral to my development in the field. Since graduating, I've worked full-time in media production for 7 years, and I feel like I was prepared for success on real-world sets mostly because of the skills and knowledge I learned from Professor Erlinder's courses. I truly believe Scott set a great example for students looking to succeed in this industry. He is not only a talented veteran, but also a lifelong student of the craft who is constantly on top of emerging technology, and is excited and avaialble to share his expertise. I can't think of a better resource for someone who is trying to actually work in the field, and I'm grateful that my education at DePaul gave me access to a professor like Scott. Hopefully future students can have the same opportunity.

Scott was one of the best professors I ever had. It would be a shame for him not to get tenure.

I have worked with professor Erlinder on several DePaul projects as a student and an employee of DePaul and he has always been an enlightening and vital presence. He is generous with his time and knowledge and our projects would have not have been possible without his help and guidance. I hope that future students, staff and the University can experience working and learning from professor Erlinder for many years to come.

Denying Scott Erlinder smacks of interdepartmental politics, rather than any argument which could be presented as logical by any means. As a graduate student of DePaul CDM, myself and my peers often joked at how immature the administration of the department was, however, it ceases to be amusing when a trusted advisor, a supportive mentor and a talented professor is not able to secure tenure. Early in my professional career, Scott provided me constant support. I know that I could rely on him in the present and future if I was faced with production hurdles I could not resolve. Scott was instrumental in my attending the Cinema Program, and I am utterly disappointed in DePaul CDM that Scott has been denied tenure.

Depaul really has fallen hasn't it? Listening to the plans that Scott had for Depaul, you could really tell he is passionate about the program. I can't imagine what the higher ups were thinking. I hope this isn't an omen for things to come at Depaul.

I was truly devastated to learn the DePaul University had made the erroneous decision to deny tenure to Scott Erlinder. I learned more in the classes that I had with Scott than any other professor. He taught us the science behind the formulas for lighting and voltage. He was teaching us how to be professional not just use a camera. Scott was the go-to professor in the program for students of color. As an African-American woman and the first student of color to declare Digital as a major, Scott always made me feel welcome. You could contact Scott for advice and help on courses that he was not even teaching. He understood the issues faced by students who are underrepresented in a field dominated by white men. When I decided to pursue my master’s degree he helped me focus my class load to help me gain skills I could use without relocating. Scott showed me ow to translate my digital cinema skills into my photographic work. When I didn’t have a babysitter for my disabled child, Scott let me bring her to class. Scott Erlinder truly embodies the Vincentian values that DePaul “supposedly” stands for. He engages the marginalized and “outsiders”. His documentary work speaks volumes for his character. When he is not teaching, which I know he truly loves he is documenting and voices to victims of genocide and introducing his students to real social issues. Scott never fell into the high-school cliquing that many of the other instructor in CDM engaged in. He never favored one student over another. When he demonstrated equipment in class every student was given the opportunity to try out that equipment. With other instructors you would be lucky to touch a camera if you were not part of the clique. He let use his equipment when CDM didn’t have a steady flow of dollars to buy $10K cameras that mysteriously only cir

It is a shame that future DePaul students will not have the same pleasure I had of having Scott as my primary instructor for cinematography. As a professor and professional he is intensely caring and passionate about the art and craft of capturing moving pictures to create and advance a narrative. I will always be grateful for how he used his experience as a camera tech and cinematographer to pioneer the direction of the Digital Cinema program, and I credit him greatly for my career in media production. Thank you Scott for caring about me and everyone else you taught above and beyond your responsibilities as an educator, you deserve better.

Scott understands the fundamentals of science behind cinematography and was a great influence to keep me interested in HOW things work, not just what looks pretty. His classes were well structured and packed with usable information, more than I can say of many other Digital Cinema professors. The science of optics is incredibly useful in my current role as visual effects artist at Digital Kitchen and his teaching directly contributed to make me more attractive to employers because I know something about WHY images look wrong instead of just moving pixels around. Scott always kept abreast of new technologies and was mesmerizing us with an explanation of light field cameras almost 5 years before I heard about them in the commercial world. I strongly believe Scott would be an invaluable asset for future DePaul students.

Professor Erlinder was one of the most knowledgeable and passionate instructors I had at DePaul University. I was taught by other cinematography instructors at DePaul, but NONE of them had the capabilities and skill that Scott Erlinder brought to the table. For the good of the program, I hope you will reconsider your decision. Best, Ryan

Words cannot express my sadness or anger at Scott's tenure denial. Scott is an excellent educator, mentor, advisor and an overall decent human being. If he transitions on to teach at another institution due to this grave oversight, a great deal of knowledge, expertise and student outreach and support will be lost in the DePaul community among the Faculty body. Scott --of all the professors I had at DePaul --has been the most influential in my growth and career progression. The sad thing about this statement is I never directly had a class with him. He served as my Professional Advisor on my academic committee for my undergraduate thesis. This was not a role he had to take on since I was not a CDM student. After I graduated undergrad, Scott is the reason I decided to pursue and complete my MS in CDM. Even now, as I am pursuing my second MS in Library and Information Science at Dominican University, Scott has been supportive in my scholarship and studies there. My point is, he cares about students and has a vested interest in seeing them gain the skills and expertise necessary to work in the field. His support goes beyond just the classroom setting and he's not the type like quite a few of the professors I've encountered in CDM to discount you if your not part of the clique. If you need his assistance, he's there for you--period. My sister (also a CDM graduate) and I often though of Scott as the underdog's champion. As a minority student, I've always felt more comfortable going to him for advice and I knew he didn't play favorites among students like other faculty. Most importantly, I knew Scott would never steer me wrong because of his extensive experience in the field.

Being a person who learned not in person, I have always learned and gained more courage to go in the field because of Erlinder Scott, and I am sure it was great to students who were onboard!! Our sincere request is that you keep him to help other students improve in cinematography

Scott was an amazing professor who taught the students more than 99% of the other professors at the university. It would be stupid to let the guy who has basically kept the program running go.
