In two seasons, Coach Wager restored respectability to the ND Basketball program. First 20 win season in 20 years, first trip to the playoffs in 15 years. It is absurd for the Superintendent and football coach to want to reassign him. Let's do the right thing and keep Coach Wager as Head Boys Basketball Coach. While we're at it, let's eliminate this RIDICULOUS notion that the football coach should have any control over the basketball players during basketball season. I believe he won a total of two games when he had those kids in football. Leave them alone and let them be successful in other sports during those seasons.

I don't have a student in the basketball program at ND so this is from a neutral bystander's view. I was a substitute last school year, and I can tell you firsthand that these kids respect Coach Wager so much. From the little time I've spent talking to him (when I would sub in PE/Athletics), he had SUCH positive things to say about our kids and the athletic program and was truly invested in its success.
This district is REALLY misguided in their thinking that a four-day week will solve the retention problem, and this is a classic example. Until you get to the root of why teachers and staff leave, you could give them a 2-day work week and it wouldn't matter. KEEP THE GOOD PEOPLE and in my opinion, Colton is absolutely one of them!
I hate to break it to New Diana, but baseball and football are not the only sports! I saw at games how involved and excited our student body was during the season...they rallied around their teammates and what an awesome season both our boys and girls had! This is because of the coaches! If players don't respect their coach, it shows. The improvement in our basketball program the past few years shows that we have great people in place that students want to work hard for.
This district NEEDS people like him...don't screw it up Diana and let yet another quality educator/coach walk out the doors.

Anyone in the coaching world understands that training is extremely sport specific. The idea that an athletic director doesn't know that is mind-blowing. As someone who both works in this industry and knows Wager personally, he is a well-trained coach who wants nothing but the best for the kids he's training.

Colton Wager is one of the most dedicated basketball coaches I have ever met. The energy and time that he puts into every program that he’s been a part of shows through the kids love for him and the output he gets from those kids. As a New Diana alumni, his time, energy, and love for this game, magnetized abundantly for this specific program to be successful. He took a program that once went 2-20 in the season before he got there to a record of 22–6, and made a historic comeback happen even through the mind games and micromanaging trials of an Athletic Director, who didn’t even have an Athletic Handbook ready upon his arrival. Coach Wager has been nothing but beneficial for New Diana. His XC coaching took kids to regionals, and is even stepping in to assist the Baseball program when coaches couldn’t get hired to do so. Not to mention his summer programs/camps that filtered throughout the elementary. Coach Colton Wager has the backing of this community, not because he’s a Diana boy, but because these people know that he will fight for his athletes no matter what it takes, and get the absolute best of them all the while being an great example and showing them the pride of wearing New Diana on the front of their jerseys that has been missing in the athletic program for quite some time. He deserves better than this from his own community and although I’m not from Diana- I standby Colton Wager and hope the town and school see the impact he is making and take into account a big loss it would be if he was forced out.

Sad that the coaching staff only care about the football program. A program that probably isn’t over .500 win % in the last 10 years. You have a coach that has turned a basketball program around and then he is told he would be re-assigned? Sad!

Colton Wager is a stand up man and an excellent basketball coach who truly cares about basketball and even more so the kids he coaches. It’s a shame East Texas will allow football to continue to corrupt good things. New Diana will be hard pressed to find a home grown Diana coach like Colton Wager.

Need to keep him. He has helped this program that has done nothing for years...these kids did awesome under his leadership. All programs need good coaches that care for the kids who wants to play basketball
