As a retired teacher (18 years with New Diana), a parent and mother-in-law to two New Diana graduates, a grandparent to current students, (and taking it way back to my Davidson ancestors who were among the original settlers of the Diana community) my heart will forever be with this community and school. As educators, we are taught that EVERY employee in the district (teachers, administrators, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, secretaries, all other faculty and staff) are to base every decision upon what is best for the student.
When I received a Master's degree in Educational Leadership with Principal certification, it was repeatedly underscored that one of the most important responsibilities for any Superintendent, Administrator, or School Board is to hire, support, mentor, and find ways to retain the best employees because they are the heart of the district, and as such, will define its success.
Texas has and will continue to have a coaching crisis. There are 36,000 coaching positions in our state. 6,000 leave their jobs every year. 20% of young coaches leave within their first five years. Texas has had more population growth since 2017 than any other state with that trend predicted to continue. You can easily see that it's our duty to support young promising coaches to keep them in the profession and in our district - not give them ridiculous ultimatums to resign or be reassigned, especially when our Coach Wager has done his job so well, and turned struggling programs around in only two seasons. How can anyone justify that this is the best decision for the students? Coach Wager (in his words -will always bleed blue and gold) has the support of the young and old in his home district. The older retired people in the community have had the privilege of teaching and watching him develop into a fine, successful, dedicated, young man with a special heart for coaching. The parents of his students and other fans have filled the basketball gym to cheer on his winning
