Good Morning, I am the Mother of one of the children, who were restrained by their two carers, at the Tommie Turtle Daycare in Huntingdale, Western Australia. The last trial date was the 11th July, with Siobahn Tapscott being acquitted of all charges and Linda Foulds being found guilty on one count of Assault. Siobahn Tapscott was awarded over $6000 in legal costs whilst Linda Foulds was awarded in excess of $4000 for legal costs and fined a meagre $750.00 for the restraints that she placed upon one child. Currently, our case file is being reviewed by the Department of Public Prosecutions as to whether or not they will appeal the outcome of the trial. At this point in time, they believe Appealing is going to be too costly for this particular case. We, as the parents, are mortified that justice for our children is being converted into monetary worth. They are children and their ages ranged from 9 months to 15 months, when the incidents took place, and allegedly occurred over a period of 4 weeks, how can anyone say it is too costly and a waste of money trying to fight for our children We have been told the best chance of being granted an appeal is to have public support for the appeal to be lodged. These children cannot stand up for themselves, they cannot seek the justice they deserve, so we, as their parents, family, peers and community surely should take it upon ourselves to make sure they receive the justice they deserve. The children were restrained with two sheets - one sheet wrapped tightly around their legs and tied around their calves the second sheet swaddled them (essentially mummified the children) with their arms down around their sides. The children were unable to move their arms and legs whilst in this restraints. The carers admitted to restraining the children in this manner and also admitted that they used this method because it made their job easier! We are also petitioning for the release of the video footage to the media. This incident needs to be brought to the public attention. People need to be shown the extent of the restraints used. No amount of explaining can give you a clear understanding of what these women\'s actions actually were.
