Good to see the building's facade is getting a clean today. It would be great if the townhall square was a space worth caring about again.

I live in South Yarra. In the past 2 years, my car has been stolen, broken into, we have had multiple attempted break ins to our house which has all been caught on camera and reported to police. There have been people doing drugs in our front garden and antisocial behaviour on the surrounding streets including chapel st. I don’t feel safe living here anymore and am currently trying to move. The council and government need to do more to provide assistance to people in need, serving justice to those who are clearly breaking the law and provide more police presence around the area of South Yarra, Prahran and Windsor.

The failure of police and council members in this regard is abhorrent.

Apart from the issues raised in the petition the increasing criminal/antisocial behaviour and lack of control by relevant authorities will impact on property values.

Definitely noticed a big change in the area lately. Will unfortunately be relocating after our lease runs out. Would love to feel safe taking my baby for a walk.

I went to university at Swinburne Prahran 15 years ago and fell in love with the area and have lived here ever since. I purchased my property in Stonnington in 2020. Chaple st has previously felt like a creative, vibrant and most importantly a safe place and I am sad to see how much it has deteriorated in the last few years. It is becoming very scary to walk down the street (even in the day) and the theft, vandalism and mental health crisis is getting worse. I have called the police regarding multiple incidents over the past few years, the most recent a week ago where a woman had her pants off at 10am in the morning making rude gestures and yelling at people. She was standing in the doorway of a liquor shop in Windsor where a terrified young man was too scared to open the shop. I waited an hour but the police did not come as they are inundated with other similar incidents at all times. The government is increasing accomodation in the area for people with mental health issues but nothing is being done to support them and they are becoming a danger to themselves and others. The police do not have enough resources to deal with all the calls.

Such a shame….!!
Used to enjoy Chapel street, clean and friendly. Now can feel wary and uncomfortable…
Chapel street has become a dirty ‘threatening’ enviroment, and we now often consider and shop elsewhere….
Sadly agree with many issues and comments that have heard and read.
The list is long…..

An amazing street and let down when antisocial behaviour. 20 years living within reach of the street
