The administration at SDSU is in the process of eliminating the long-standing policy of guaranteeing admission to CSU-qualified local students. Up until now students who met minimum CSU requirements were admitted into SDSU. The new policy makes local students compete for slots with students from outside the service area (who are held to higher GPA & SAT requirements) and will set a quota/limit on the number of local students who will be admitted to the campus annually.
Furthermore, this new policy undermines the years of hard work local students invest in preparing for a college education. This policy will also deprive thousands of students of the opportunity to attend a four year university locally due circumstances beyond their control. Most of these students cannot afford private university fees or the exorbitant debt they necessitate. Obtaining a bachelor's degree elsewhere in California at a public university will cost the students and their parents thousands of dollars more per year. Over the years, the policy of guaranteeing admission to local students has benefited the students, SDSU, the region and its employers.
WE DEMAND THE RESTORATION OF THE LOCAL STUDENT ADMISSIONS GUARANTEE POLICY NOW! AND OPPOSE THE SDSU ADMISSIONS POLICY CHANGE THAT HARMS SAN DIEGO AREA STUDENTS!

The feedback from local families regarding this change in admissions policy confirms the depth of the concern across our community. I am currently documenting these personal accounts to prepare for a formal meeting with university leadership.

Total bs. Local students deserve a fair shot at the school in their own backyard.

Ridiculous. We live 10 mins away and now my son has to apply to schools hundreds of miles away? Keep it local sdsu!

My family has lived in this region for generations. SDSU is turning its back on the community that supports it.

This is so unfair to all the kids who worked their butts off all 4 years of high school expecting to go here. Greedy move by the school.
