A VP of the board of a publicly funded institution has no business imposing a corporate culture on a library. Ignoring the needs of the community and blatantly dismissing the expertise of the employees is laden with agenda. I personally watched the board meetings and I was infuriated. This can no longer be tolorated.

As a friend to a current employee of the library, I've seen the toll that this mismanagement has taken on the staff over the last year.

As a speaker, I have been doing virtual presentations for other area libraries during the Pandemic. However, due to the furloughing of staff, the Farmington Public Library has had no programming whatsoever for the public.

From the quotes of comments made by Largent in various articles, he does not appear to be properly ‘suited’ to this position.

This way over steps the boundaries of the role of a library board member, who are to set policy, including in all committees, and determine the budget, including payroll. They are elected by the voters and not by city officials. For the board members to be micromanaging the director goes way beyond their role. The director is in charge of the day to day operations, including supervising the staff. I suggest they read the MLA role of the library board guidelines. This behavior will do noting but bring staff morale down, and in turn reflect on to the public. This board needs to go. What a shameful way to run such a wonderful library.

Mr. Largent obviously is ignorant of what a public library is all about. What a clueless individual!!! What are the other board members doing? Are they also complicit in enacting Largent’s flawed actions? We the residents & homeowners have a stake in our community library and clamor for excellence in services & it’s materials/resources offered to its users. We, the community with our tax dollars fund the library. Largent Is in no position to hover over the service operations of the library. Trust the professionals! The community library is NOT a “for profit” entity but an entity to provide SERVICE to the community. Where do we stand now in all this controversy, mishaps & the pandemic? How is the library re-inventing itself so we, the users can have access to the multitude of resources that a community library should have & offer. We need access to the library more so now that we are just confined in our homes. Mr. Largent - do you have any creative ideas or proposal other than simply furloughing library employees? How and what should the library be doing during this pandemic time?

We want our library back!!! Time for Mr. Largent to move on as it seems that he is impeding the opening by bullying and disrespect.

Previous employee, was head of Circulation Desk and worked for FCL for 15 years , but still love FCL! Please help to restore!

As a resident of the adjacent community, I am appalled at this behavior. We need to show support for our libraries at this time, especially as they will be even more vital resources for children in the uncertainty of the upcoming school year, out of work individuals seeking job help, and elders who need a healthy and safe connection to the community.

We have been residents of the F/FH community for over 40 years and have used its services extensively during that time, when our children were living here and after they grew up. The library has ALWAYS been efficiently run, had extremely competent staff and director(s), and served as a model for many communities. Over the past 3 years, we have SADLY seen this unrest, sparring between the staff (who we trust should be running the library) and the Board, which should serve only in a consulting/advising vs. directing capacity.

Based on Mr. Largent's public comments it is clear he is not interested in doing what is best for the community. The libraries need to be staffed and available to the community in trying times like this. Mr. Largent needs to be removed!

Let the librarians run the libraries. It's a public service, not a "for profit " enterprise.

To create such a kind and service oriented place, focusing on our community that pays tax dollars to support it and treating it as a business, it simply is not acceptable for a patron such as myself. I raised my children in this library. They are who they are now, thanks to the librarians, pages, volunteers, programs, friends events and resources they have. Please remove the elements who do not have the community of Farmington and Farmington Hills as their primary focus, predicting useless reasons of not returning staff back to the library, but spending indiscriminately on other projects is appalling and shameful. Hypocricy without any accountability or respect toward the community this library board member is appointed to serve. Wow!!!

I am a recognized poet with The Grosse Pointe Memorial Church and The Scarab Club of Detroit. I believe that Librarians have proven to be centurions against the the commercialization of information access and they earn our full support each and every day, most notably those professionals with the Farmington Community Library.

I grew up in Farmington and most of my family still lives there. I am also a librarian, a former employee of the library. So I cannot help but advocate for my fellow library workers and for a community that deserves better.

Bullying is not an acceptable style of management anywhere, not in non-profits or in business. The person in question, who is creating the toxic atmosphere, must be fired if they don't resign.
