It seems that the BOT needs to be better informed. I don't think they are greedy, but they are not doing their jobs sufficiently well. Speaks to the problem of how our boards are elected statewide.

We all know that public institutions cannot compete with private companies for rate of pay. Even so, MSU was able to attract faculty and staff with the promise of strong benefits and better work/life balance than some other professions. However, when those things are cut and/or threatened, we will be faced with losing personnel.

Faculty and staff supported MSU when there was a perceived financial crisis. Now that it is apparent that this financial crisis never materialized in the manner that the administration and trustees envisioned, it is time for the university to honor its contractual obligation to its employees. The risk, if this doesn't occur, may be a profound loss of institutional loyalty and years of frustration and embitterment on the part of MSU employees, faculty, and staff.

The greed of MSU and its board is astounding, as is the lack of respect for the faculty and (non-sports) staff.

Perhaps we should also be providing this information to our individual state and federal representatives and senators. It is especially grating to see the university request state funding for new building projects while faculty and academic staff are left in the lurch.

As an alumna (twice!) of MAU, I'm ashamed of my alma mater's behavior. Pay your employees!

Any argument against reinstating the salary and benefit cuts retroactively seems to be very weak in the face of the budget facts that the faculty senate has shared with us. This is a no-brainer. Looking forward, the act of not restoring the cuts will obviously harm future hiring at all levels, which is also obviously bad. Do the right thing that is best for the university! Please take care of your staff and faculty.

MSU has rarely done the right thing when needed. Let's see if they will take the chance to rectify their shameful actions. I fully support this petition.

To think that this university, which has been a home and a community for me for so long would shortchange people like this is heartbreaking and cannot go on.
