Our faculty and academic staff have worked so hard and gone through so much. It's encouraging the President Stanley is beginning to provide more than just "thank you" to the people who have kept MSU running, but more really needs to be done. Thanks to Faculty Senate for acting on this!

The assumptions used to justify the cuts were wildly inaccurate. MSU leadership should have proactively identified that their forecast was wrong and planning to reverse the economic damage of the policies they enacted to deal with a financial problem that never manifested. Rather than continuing to amass wealth in the endowment, the university should have planned to spend unrestricted funds from that source to deal with the anticipated problems in the first place. There was clearly sufficient money available to do so. However, that did not happen. Retroactively restoring full pay and benefits to non-union faculty and academic staff is the only morally appropriate choice. Similarly, union personnel should also be made whole. MSU needs to treat its personnel--all of them--better if it wants to live up to its aspirations as an institution. That his how it can become a better university.

With this inflation rate, this is much needed

As a new faculty member joining the staff in July 2020, the restoration of retirement contributions will make a big difference over the next two decades.

For junior people, the loss of the retirement contributions is really substantial.

Also - need reasonable cost of living for all and hazard pay for faculty required to work in clinical settings during pandemic

The approval of this petition would mean the world to me. Our program had record levels of enrolled students and if #1 in the world in our specialization and my reward was a salary cut...I was so disheartened. MSU means everything to me and approving this proposal would renew my faith in MSU "people first" focus.

Through some of their actions during the pandemic, including, as it turns out unjustified, salary and benefit cuts negatively affecting faculty and academic staff, our administration has demonstrated that their understanding of our mission may no longer be the same as ours. The presented data are compelling. I hope that the administration will respond in a proper manner.

This is very important for faculty retention and morale. Let's face it - it was argued that "we should share the burden" but the majority of the employees of MSU are unioned and were not affected. Instead, the non-unionized faculty bore this burden.

Striking data - only one in the Big 10
