Because salaries increases and retirement returns on investment are compounded, the cuts impacted early career individuals disproportionately. Please make us whole.

The salary and benefits cuts to the faculty and staff were unnecessary. Faculty had to carry a heavy burden during the pandemic and a substantially increased workload. They need to be compensated for their performance. Instead of paying hefty salaries t football coaches, MSU should prioritize its staff and faculty.

Seeing these figures and that the perceived financial crisis did not take place, the salary and benefits cuts to the faculty and staff that supported the teaching mission through the pandemic and continue to be the “front line” to the students experience needs to be considered and rectified.
Faculty and academic staff had to pivot, adjust, learn new technology and teaching methods to keep one of the few core missions of the university going forward all while dealing with the pay cuts and the new normal in their households. We continue to be the frontline of this issue today in the classroom and teaching, risking health and dealing with a student population that is attempting to re-engage in the education process, dealing with new norms and their own mental health issues during the pandemic.
I find it ironic that this week in the face of this petition and the potential of a large contract being signed in athletics, we are offered a few days of reprieve during the holiday season. Speaking for many and as many employers struggle to keep staff, the restoring full pay and benefits to faculty/academics staff would be looked more favorably upon.

It is shocking that it requires a petition for the MSU administration to return back to faculty and staff this lost compensation when faculty and staff graciously accepted the logic for the reduced compensation during the COVID crisis. The administration repeatedly praised us for the jobs we were doing in spite of the challenges and yet they have not on their own restored the lost wages and benefits to us in view of the fact that the financial scenarios providing the rationale for these cuts in compensation turned out to be incorrect. I trust they will speedily restore the lost compensation.

The federal aid was designed to avert salary cuts--was it used for that?

As a graduate of MSU, the treatment of the educational staff makes me disgusted and angry. Thanks to the dedicated staff members of the German department, I am where I am today. MSU's persistent prioritization of sports programs (most recent example being the new football coach's potentially 95 mill. contract) over it's education departments is shameful. MSU needs to remember it is an institution of higher EDUCATION not athletics, and will only remain as such if it allots it's funds accordingly. Otherwise go join the NBA or NFL.

Priorities-support faculty and bring our salaries and benefits back to show that we are essential workers and that teaching our students is the highest work of universities

The facts indicate underrepresented groups were especially hard hit. Retroactive restoration is reflective of a fair culture once it turned out no revenue was lost. The university made gains from investments that should be shared since there was no loss of revenue.

This would really help as it made a significant dent in my salary at a difficult time when additional sources of income (research related) were not available.
