In these difficult times, this is not where the cuts should have come from. With these cuts the university showed that management is not responsible for one person's wrong-doing, the faculty and teaching staff is. Despite our lack of power or control, we the people who are doing the ACTUAL MISSION of this land grant university are the ones who suffer. MSU needs to seriously look at what our mission states. First and foremost " providing outstanding undergraduate, graduate, and professional education to promising, qualified students in order to prepare them to contribute fully to society as globally engaged citizen leaders..." there is NO EXCUSE to make those that effectuate this mission to suffer due to the lack of leadership. We're here doing our jobs. Management should do its!

This is the most appropriate step to take. This would show that MSU appreciates the dedication of their faculty who continued to teach, do research to the extent possible, and continue service.

I support this petition, cuts have impacted those that are already paid below industry averages the most. Many of these faculty are the backbones of our programs.

These salary and benefit reductions were dramatic and hurtful. Use of a creative furlough like the governor used for state employees could have saved the employees most losses while also saving MSU money. Learning of the reserves at MSU, observing new lucrative contracts with key leadership, and realizing that promised post-retirement medical benefits were also diminished substantially suggests to me that this burdon should be reversed so we can continue our pride in MSU and restore belief that we are truly appreciated for our sustained effort and dedication through good times and bad times. I love MSU but feel this past year and a half was unduly financially punishing for academic employees. I support a reversal of these fund losses for non-unionized academic employees given what Academic Senate has uncovered.

This is a sound, fact-based recognition of the losses non-unionized faculty and academic staff have experienced as a result of cuts to salary and benefits. Restitution as well as restoration is necessary and appropriate. I fully support these demands.

Over the past 28 years, I have observe MSU executive administrators either under react (Larry Nassar case), or overreact.
I hope they find their happy medium before I retire!

In addition to the salary loss we took on large increases in childcare expenses ($2K/month) due to school closings in order to continue working full time through the pandemic. That's an additional $36K of loss on top of the salary and retirement plan loss. This additional financial impact may be more common among female faculty.

Restore the cuts to pay and benefits so MSU will be able to attract and retain the best faculty and staff. This is fundamental.

Thank you for putting this together. I had a baby and Nature paper both in 2020. I have not had the bandwidth to even ask this of leadership despite the merit of my work, so I appreciate the petition. MSU leadership, I urge you to consider this petition. I understand why we made the choices we did, the question is now, what is the right choice going forward.

How many faculty and academic staff are working equally as hard for the restoration of all that support staff has lost over the same time period? What about their fringe and retirement match? What about their unpaid furloughs and increased workloads? The narrow lens and complete omission of support staff reeks of professorial privilege and considers the class of employees who already have the highest pay and most extensive benefits across the university.

I fully support the petition. It should also include a dramatic change of the medical insurance for the retirees, which is against the MSU obligations.
