Many jobs require the creativity and imagination learned through the arts. These are job skills and not nonproductive "fun" time.

Education is so much more than traditional subjects. Most of my life lessons and molding to the person I am today is more a result of performing arts than studies.

Performing arts is critical to the children's overall education. Studies have shown that students that participate in music have higher academic levels of achievement. We NEED to save the world class performing arts program in Avon Schools!!!

My children have always been a part of the performing arts. We are all born with gifts. Some can kick and catch a ball while others can calculate or play the oboe. Regardless of one's talents, all deserve the same opportunities to thrive. Music has been life changing for my children.

When arts are lost, creativity is lost. When creativity is lost one doesn't learn free thinking and problem solving. Save the arts!

Arts are every bit as important to developing creativity and critical thinking in young minds, especially, as science, technology, engineering and math. If nothing else, arts need to be and can easily be incorporated into the other studies.

As a current musician the arts are needed in school, wether to influence children through the discipline of an instrument, or through the proven psychological effects that have been sustained in the learning environments.

I have a 1st grader who loves art and has been playing the cello for 3 years. I see those things (particularly practicing cello) a a critical part of his development--I see what he gains (patience, perseverance, self esteem) from being challenged as he masters new pieces. I would like these opportunities to be available sooner for any student in the school distract. Not everyone has the means or time for private lessons away from the public school system. Music and art have been such an enriching part of my own life and they played a significant role my own successes (in science!)

As a music teacher I see the joy that young people and adults as well feel when they can sing, play and instrument and/or paint and draw. Things my adults learned when they were younger has helped them continue their music skills and music ministry playing handbells. Younger kids are learning to apply the skills they are learning in school now. Fun seeing and hearing the beat go on.

I am an alumni of Avon High School and was involved in the performing art as a color guard member. It helped me grow into a strong and self confident woman. I am enjoying sharing this experience with my own daughters.

As a former Avon student who was a part of the orchestra program, I've experienced first hand how incorporating arts (specifically musical/performing arts, but this applies to all different forms of art) into an education can really enhance and transform a student, and I believe arts education is a very important aspect of schooling.
