Five years ago, Avon Community School Corporation (ACSC) had to slash funding to arts programming in the wake of the failed referendum. The effects of these budget cuts are still being felt.

  • We, the undersigned, believe that arts education is important to supporting the development of the "whole child," and
  • As Avon/Washington Township citizens, we value the positive impact that music and related arts education/programming has on our youth,
  • Therefore, we respectfully urge the ACSC board and administration to act on the recommendations approved in the Corporation's 2011 Strategic Plan to "restore K-6 arts education to optimal levels."

My son will be starting kindergarten this school year. I'm hoping by signing this petition good things will be in place for his future. The testing done nowadays and the lack of arts is frightening. Arts open up your mind and creativity.

My daughter Elizabeth Fecher is a Senior at AHS this year. She is so proud of the accomplishments in her music career. It would not have been possible if she wasn't exposed to music in middle school.

I've been working and went to college in media arts and science for a while and it was all due to the foundation that I had from going to elementary school in Avon. Every kids deserves and needs these classes in their life.

My children have always been a part of the performing arts. We are all born with gifts. Some can kick and catch a ball while others can calculate or play the oboe. Regardless of one's talents, all deserve the same opportunities to thrive. Music has been life changing for my children.

I am an alumni of Avon High School and was involved in the performing art as a color guard member. It helped me grow into a strong and self confident woman. I am enjoying sharing this experience with my own daughters.

My son is making his living as a graphic designer! Needless to say that his encouragement at Pine Tree led him to pursue his dream!

Arts exposure & inclusion is so very important to creating well-rounded individuals and needs to remain a requirement for students beyond 6th grade. Failure to do so will have long-term affects on those individuals and society as a whole for not all learning is done through core academics. We will fail our children and therefore our future if we succome to this ideal.
