As my father is in a personal care home right now. I can only hope that ALL POLITICIANS consider their needs. But for the grace of god they may be the ones requiring these essential services soon. They appear to be somewhat short signed here with the cuts. These elderly citizens have spent their entire life working and paying taxes in Manitoba. They must be treated as well as is possible by our government and politicians. They have more then earned it.

I am tired of hearing from Pallister and his cronies that they are finding "efficiencies" as they reduce expenditures and in the process cut services that are so needed by those less fortunate in Manitoba. These cuts are a perfect example of the charade that they are playing.

Medical services are the last thing the government should be cutting. Seniors in nursing homes all have extensive care needs. They are not admitted to nursing homes except as a last resource. Inadequate care for them is both cruel and unjustified. They won't last long wondering the streets where so many of our mentally ill sufferers live.

Personal Care Homes have always suffered from lack of adequate funding. Recent 'budget cuts' have drastically hurt PCH ability to provide proper care to a growing population of elderly Manitoba citizens who have been doing their best for our province. If there is any justice in Manitoba it is our government that needs to repay residents in personal care homes by honouring their rights at this critical junction of their lives.

This is just so wrong on so many levels. Our elders deserve to be well-cared for in the last years of their lives. Of all people they should not have to suffer to pay down the debt. It is unconscionable for our elected officials to be cutting support to personal care homes.

We are a wealthy province. More so than at any time in our history. We CAN afford to support seniors in a generous way that respects the contributions they have made to the wealth of our province. And to the wealth that Brian Pallister enjoys!

The overall cuts to health care and the reduction in people services in our medical system has been appalling under this government. ER services and much needed community health clinics have been closed down. The staff at personal care homes are overwhelmed with the stress of being front line caregivers with little or no support. We can see that this government has no intention to help care for taxpayers ' real needs. Its only focus is on big business and budget numbers. Meanwhile we, the taxpayers are all feeling the pinch and continue to pay through the nose for no service. What's the use of balancing the budget if there are no decent personal care homes for our elderly? The lack of compassion for human conditions and values in our provincial leadership is disgusting. We need new leaders with new priorities and skills who can work cooperatively for the good of all parties and human beings who pay the taxes. Clearly we need a new government in our province.
