As an ACM Life Member, I am extremely disappointed by this turn of events. A valuable research tool has been cut off from citizen scientists, independent researchers, and working programmers and engineers: authors cannot even see their own profile page.
Immediate restoration of metadata access is a must.

I don't think this is a cash grab, I think it is the corporate monster trying to block the unfettered from knowledge that might benefit all mankind. That's worse than a cash grab.

It is quite hypocritical. ACM introduced APCs for all conference papers, which makes publishing papers more expensive, justifying it with the Open Access transition, but then they set up this paywall.

Free and sustainable science depends on open access for everyone. Denying it is intolerable, especially when paywalled data was provided by unpaid volunteers!

"Open" behind a paywall is a bit of a contradiction. As someone who has spent essentially their entire career outside of large organizations, except for undergraduate and graduate school, paywalls are a significant expense and impair non-institutionally affiliated researchers and scholars.
