I am a university research librarian, and any deterioration in access to metadata is deterioration of utility. What are the things the ACM needs this extra money for which could be offloaded to distributed volunteer work among its users?

It's disappointing that ACM decided to introduce a paywall, especially when science and education are already facing significant challenges.

There is no reason to paywall access to what is necessary information about the state of technologies that actively effect all of our lives. Everyday folks should be able to read researchers work as much as a tenured professor or rich tech mogul.
