I proudly canvassed for the referendum and in doing so expressed my confidence that the D86 Board would continue to deploy resources wisely. Please justify that confidence by fully funding all arts programs. The arts education I was lucky to have was and is a treasure, and I'm beyond proud that my kids are scholars and artists and athletes in different combinations. The referendum was unquestionably meant to ensure that we provide everyone the opportunities they need to explore all of that. I will be watching closely to see that that purpose is fulfilled.

Drama is just as important as football, please be fair and put ALL the cut programs back. And restore the fired teacher positions to please.

I cannot even begin to express how much my theatre training prepared me for my life as an adult. The creativity, collaboration, working to deadlines, working on shoestring budgets, public speaking, and empathy skills are applicable and critical to success in so many fields. At a time when kids are shaping who they are, these are the programs we should be sure to provide.

It is abhorrent if the BOE does not restore the funding to the Arts department.

This is my children’s favorite activity. As a youth and into college, The Performing Arts helped shape me into who I am today. My prayer is that our children will have opportunity to be shaped by theatre arts as well.

Simply put arts are just as important as sports but they get out on the back burner. Don’t get me wrong thrilled the referendum passed but not all kids in the school play football or do something associated with football. To fully reinstate sports and make the other activities fight it out for what can be reinstated with a dollar cap on that amount when football & activiifies associated with football are not subject to any cut in budget seems unfair. Drama should be reinstated fully.

The arts were so critical to my own personal educational experience growing up. My children are involved in the arts at the elementary school level, and the benefits they’ve reaped are countless. I would hate to see these kind of growth and education opportunities not be available to students at the high school level moving forward.

After everything we have been through as a District, do we really want to heal? The answer is YES! Reinstate all IHSA activities not just sports. Reinstate all activities so our children can find themselves, find their passions, I have friends whose son has such a passion for the arts as a Sophomore at South he was named All-State during the competition. You never know, He may be the next big star on the big screen someday. REVERSE ALL CUTS!!!

These programs are absolutely critical for so many of our kids. Long after they’ve forgotten a calculus equation or a line of Chaucer, they’ll remember the experiences they have in the dramatic arts and still have the bonds they form there. My daughter was telling me just this morning that many of her closest friends come from drama. These programs are critical for these kids, just as sports are for others. They develop courage, camaraderie, and compassion that they will have in their toolbox for the rest of their lives. Please restore funding for these important programs.

The drama club, like football, marching band, cheer, etc... brings the community together. It also involves band students and is very important to any school!

The skills these students achieve through these programs FAR outweigh anything they will achieve in any other activity or sport. I have children that have done just about everything at the school from Drama-Speech-Theatre- Student Council, Clubs, AND Sports. I can say first hand that I've seen how these skills transfer to life long achievements and confidence. Hinsdale South has an amazing, award winning Director, Danny Yuska, who has given countless hours to these programs and these kids. Shame to the Board for taking our YES vote and still try to make these cuts.

My son who is not an athlete, found his nich his Freshman year when he met Danny Yuska, Mr Anderson and the rest of the drama and speech students and staff. I love that there is still a way to feed these students’ competitive side w/ programs like IHSA group interpretation (took 4th place at state this year) and performance in the round. Don’t let the talent of these intelligent and creative students go to waste.
