We desperately need a crossing guard at this intersection. It is one of the most dangerous areas on 202 especially given the hill on both sides making it impossible to accurately judge oncoming vehicles and their speed.

I almost got into an accident pulling out of the parking lot. It is very dangerous without the crossing guard present.

This is dangerous to not have a crossing guard controlling traffic.

Dear Mr. Franklin, I am writing to ask for your assistance in a matter that has just come to light. The private school on Route 202 St. Mary of the Assumption has lost its traffic guard due to lack of county funding, so I have been told. We have been going to the school for 5 years and we have always had a traffic guard. This is an extremely busy road and is very hard to see when crossing or pulling out on this road. Sometime in the last 2 years or so a speed camera was placed outside of the school as well which helped slow the traffic. Well now we have lost both the traffic guard and the speed camera. I am afraid that if something is not done there will be a tragic accident that might lead to the loss of a student or worse yet and entire family. Each family that attends this school pays the required tax for our child to attend public school in our property tax bill. Those funds would cover the cost of educating our children. We have released that financial burden from the county and have taken it upon ourselves to pay out of our pocket for an alternative source of education. Our funds should be used to safely get our children out of their school and on their way to their home. Since we have lost the traffic guard and the speed camera we have nothing to slow the traffic down and help prevent losing a life. I would like to see if we can get something put in place for a 30 minute period once a day Monday-Friday, from 3:00-3:30. The only options I can see are: 1. Chance the warning light to a true traffic light that will operate for 30 minutes a day from 3:00-3:30. 2. Reinstate the traffic guard. We are open to other options if anyone has any. I just do not want to see this end in another tragedy in Prince Georges County. Haven’t we lost enough lives already?? 47 year resident, Linette Kolos

I am glad this is being made aware to the local county officials. As handling this issue at the lowest level is always the best practice. However, as the President of the Home and School association I can not stand by and let the safety of our parents dropping off their children nor the Safety of our children as they are passenger in a vehicle pulling out onto largo rd. go unnoticed. Our parents pay local taxes which are used to fund public services. There was a speed camera that was placed BEHIND our school sign. How much revenue has that made for the county? Our families choose to a send their children to an institution which has a stellar education track and focuses on building better adults through religious education. Our parents will not stand by having to put their life and life of their children in danger every time they depart school. Vehicles constantly break the speed limit as they approach the crest of the hill in front of our school. A crossing guard to stop traffic for 20 minutes a day is the only solution. There is no room for discussion in this matter.

There is very high traffic volume coming in both directions at this location. It's proactive and smart to have a crossing guard here to prevent accidents.

The crossing guard was placed at St. Mary's in the first place due to the high amount of accidents, how many more accidents and injuries must happen before the crossing guard is reinstated?

Now that the speed camera has been removed it is even more important to reinstate our crossing guard to keep everyone safe.
