Stop destroying accountibility. We want adults who can work in the working realm. Remember these students will be running the country one day.

Keep it up! VBCPS is absolutely clueless, and how they can want to "lower the bar" so "everyone can get a trophy" is absurd. Make the School Board accountable for being asleep at the wheel on this issue to date. They should fire Spence and anyone else involved in this ridiculous, behind closed doors effort. If you want to teach kids how to FAIL, this is the way to do it. Defeat this proposal, get these people out of their positions of power and fiefdom, and make sure it can't happen again. This country spends more per child on education than anywhere else in the world, and this is what we get for those dollars??! Contact your school board now. Stop this absurd and damaging grading change.

The new grading system is going to overwhelm teachers and leave the children ill prepared for the future...way to go!

I am appalled that the Virginia Beach School System would consider moving to no accountability. And how will our students compete with other students across the state and country for college and jobs?

For those of you who do not see the benefit of child accountability, you give up your right to complain about the future consequences when these children potentially become undisciplined adults.

What is being proposed is not a path to excellence in a very competitive world economy.

Accountability must not be removed in the schools as our students will not be prepared for real world expectations. I do not support this proposed change.

Students who are not held accountable for completing homework in a timely manner and/or properly preparing for tests/quizzes will not be prepared to succeed in college or the real world.

I am concerned that changes are being implemented in our school systems without school board, parent, or teacher knowledge.

As a teacher educator and father of a student at VB Middle School, I implore the members of the VB School Board to keep strong accountability in place for all of our students.

Children need to learn accountability. We have to stop "giving" them things they need to earn. It will help them all in the long run.

Students need to be accountable for their work and assignments. They need to be prepared for college and the workforce!

Why would we not want to do this? Thank you for sharing this information

Thank you for making this available, not all parents can attend meetings and have their voices heard.

It's unfair for there to be separate standards for which children will be graded the only thing that should matter is does the child understand the material and demonstrates critical thinkging

My daughter attends an elementary school where this policy already exists. I employed a counselor to work on ways to organize and motivate my daughter to want to do her homework correctly and get good grades. The first suggestion from the counselor was to let her grades be the motivation. I.e., she fails then there will be repercussions... I had to tell the counselor that homework doesn't count and they can retake tests. She actually laughed out loud and said no wonder she's not motivated to succeed!

Accountability. Don't do the work, don't get the credit.

Our schools claim that they want to prepare our students for college. If that is true, then accountability is key in preparation. Even more importantly, they are preparing future citizens. Again, accountability is the key to living as a person, with integrity. Integrity is sorely lacking in society. We need to change that.
