I am currently gathering documented accident reports to present to Community Board 5 at their next public hearing. Please email your local representative to demand they review these dangerous traffic patterns before someone else gets hurt.

The momentum behind this change is undeniable and it proves that our neighborhood demands safer streets now. Send this link to your local council member and tell them we need 81st Street restored immediately.

the complaints were because traffic on 77th ave was speeding around a blind turn near 81st street. All that was needed was a stop sign, not a direction change on a block. SMH
This changing the direction of traffic on 81st (between 78th Ave & 77th Ave) and moving of the stop sign was done in error. If the purpose was to reduce the speeding on 77th Avenue, this change makes absolutely no sense. It is obviously interjecting additional risk and stress on a already highly congested intersection which includes a bus turn, the bus stop, major school traffic, 80th St\78th Ave intersection turn off from bridge, etc. Bad idea, and I would hate to see who raises their hand and said it is their brainchild when someone gets hurt.
Changing the street direction doesn't help 77th Avenue it will only cause more issues on 78th Avenue, especially when a bus is in the bus stop and a car is trying to get around the bus.
Reversing the direction won't help. We need a stop sign at 81st and a speedbump or another stop sign on 77 ave between 82 st and 87 st.

Ridiculous change, stop signs, crosswalks and speed bumps or a traffic light on 77th and 81st would be a better thought!!!!
The change of direction will only cause MORE CONGESTION not only at that corner but at 80th Street and 78th Avenue due to traffic being fed off of 77th Avenue. What was done only goes to show the level of stupidity of those who govern us.

Unfortunately and once again the powers that be opted to act despite protests from the residents that live here. It makes no sense when all that was needed was a two-way stop sign on 77th Ave. I am sorry for those residents that came out to protest this change and whose voices were subsequently and once again silenced by this beast of a bureaucracy.
