Reston Zoning Moratorium Petition

At some point, don't we need to consider quality of life? As a a planned community, Reston has offered a quality of life that is being challenged with the new highrises in place in Reston already. Traffic is challenging during many hours a day. Where is the infrastructure to support the proposed higher density? How about putting it in place before—not after—years of terrible congestion? And then talk to us about increasing the density.

There is no desire to reject new neighbors and businesses, but we need realistic plans and funding for schools, roads, utilities and other infrastructure to be in synch with growth. The County should STOP the zoning change and STOP new development applications until we see a realistic plan and funding for roads, schools, parks, utilities and public safety. As called for in the Reston Master Plan: Development must be phased with infrastructure.

There should be a moratorium on all projects including building on our open spaces and conversions of our open space parks, especially Hook Road in Reston. Everything should be placed on hold.

At the meeting on Monday we should all take a knee and a moment of silence. All these efforts to greatly increase density in our residential neighborhoods will provide luxury housing for the rich white people and leave behind the middle class and the poor. This is discrimination.

Too much growth will ruin Reston and it will no longer be the haven that it is for so many families. Declare a moratorium until you have viable plan and funding for necessary infrastructure to accompany such development.

Lifelong Restonian, here. No more density! Traffic is already bad and quality of life is eroding. You are ruining Reston!

It is nearly impossible to get anywhere in Reston quickly anymore, no matter how many back roads you take. This, without the addition of new automobiles that will soon be added when the MANY current construction projects are completed. Moving from red-light to red-light will soon become sitting at the same red-light for several cycles.

It is mind boggling that this much growth would even be considered. It's obvious that quality of life is no longer a criterion in planning for Reston and the surrounding areas.

RA approval of this plan would be at best reckless and at worst corrupt: reckless regarding the near total omission of infrastructure expansion needs; corrupt regarding the apparent profiteering regarding same in view of the license granted for unfettered multi-residential development!

Uncontrolled growth with no thought to infrastructure or additional schools is irresponsible. Traffic is already incredibly bad in Reston. There is really no more room for any more cars. Do not increase density.

Reston will lose its natural beauty, its feeling of being an enclave amidst the suburbs and essentially be ruined if a population density increase is approved. It would impact schools, affordable housing, and parks. Traffic, which is already getting congested, would be thick and unflowing. Don't do it.

The roads are already overcrowded here and all the houses already in the pipeline are going to make it much worse. We don't need any more residents to destroy our community. The reason they are coming here in the first place will be gone.

Please don't destroy our South Lakes shopping Center.

Enough is enough!!!! Ms. Hudgins needs to grow a backbone & guard the backs of constituents rather than the county coffers. We can't get out of our neighborhood now & once Metro opens we will really be screwed. STOP the insane growth!!

The infrastructure of Reston will not support this increased density even with proposed updates. This will ruin Reston! We do NOT want another Tysons Corner here!

Do not increase zoning density in Reston!

This proposal would completely change/ruin the footprint and character of my community with a particularly important negative impact for all of us living near redevelopment locations. This plan will give developers rights to tear down South Lakes Shopping Center and every other shopping center or retail location in Reston neighborhoods—leaving us with no nearby supermarkets etc.. As it stands there is little enough shopping now. Developers are not required to provide such amenities, retail space, parking improvements, etc.. The density of these rezoned parcels is for 50 persons per acre—so the buildings will be high rises/luxury high rises which we have far too many of now. The areas bordering the Dulles Toll Road and including Reston Town Center have already approved to add 44,000 new residents due to prior rezoning. The current rezoning proposal would increase the population of the rest of Reston by more than 50%. The result is a proposal to increase the residential population by 300%. This is a STAGGERING number. No provision or consideration has been given to the transportation, parks/recreation, school, fire, or police services needed. Obviously all will require 3 times the current service level and driving will be an absolute nightmare. Traffic is already becoming a problem without adding this proposal to it. None of these developers are being required to contribute to RA for improvements to existing recreational facilities but the people who live in these units will be able to use them. Not to mention our lakes. The lakes are currently being polluted at a staggering rate causing damage to the ecosystem. It isn’t clear whether new residents would have to pay RA dues either. There is no real need to do this now except for developer greed. They have the entire area around the Toll Road to jam with new condos and rentals already. When is enough enough? This proposal must be stopped and returned for reconsideration to the Zoning Commi

First the golf course, now this. This wouldn't be happening if not for the Silver Line, and it won't be stopping anytime soon. Greed is NOT good!
