WASHINGTON (CNN) July 10, 2007 -- Sen. David Vitter apologized to anyone he disappointed after telephone records linked him to an escort service operated by Deborah Jeane Palfrey, aka the \"D.C. Madam.\"
The Louisiana Republican said in a Monday statement that he told his wife several years ago about a \"serious sin\" and she forgave him.
\"Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there -- with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way,\" he said.
END------
Senator...you can only wish your secret and delayed, \"caught in the act\" apology would disappear with an expression of regret and desperate, last minute press release. It will not!
You were a congressman before you were a senator. It doesn\'t matter whether you did business with the \"DC Madam\" when you were a congressman or a senator. You are an attorney. You know the law. You know about ethics. You pass laws and judgment on other people--laws that disrupt lives and send people to prison.
Senator Vitter...you boasted during your 2004 campaign that you co-authored and fought for the Federal Marriage Amendment. You further vowed to protect \"the sanctity of marriage.\" You knew at that time that you were living a lie...that you had dis-honored your self, your family, your marriage, the Louisiana Bar, and those closest to you, including the voters that sent you to your senate office.
There are only 100 U.S. Senators. They should be the most outstanding leaders with the highest morals. You no longer rank among them!
Senator do you think by admitting your \'sin\' that this will go away How about admitting that you are immoral, an adulterer, and a law breaker too
We the people, who are sick of two-faced politicians like you, call upon you to admit you are a lawbreaker who disgraced your office, not just a sinner. We call upon you to do the right thing now..pay the price for your DC Madam escapade. Go back home and practice law and stay away from fantasy \"call girl\" type services. That is the least you can do.
Resign Now Senator Vitter! Have some respect for the people that trusted your judgment by placing you in such a distinquished position you obviously do not deserve. Stop minimizing your misdeeds by calling it a \"sin.\" Even your Republican friends know the difference between a sin and illegal & immoral activity.
Resign Now and save your apologies. They are meaningless given your position as an attorney, congressman and hopefully soon to be X-U.S. Senator!
You may wish this matter were only between your wife and God. It is not. Your conduct made it a matter between the voters and you.
the reaction to this has been wild and the messages coming in show just how many people feel betrayed by this hypocrisy. im working on a way to get these names into the right hands so they cant just keep ignoring us.

i cannot believe how fast this is picking up steam. seeing so many people agree that we deserve better than this is honestly just wild. thanks for keeping the energy up because it feels like people are finally paying attention.
