Residents Parking for the Colonies - Exmouth

Rosebery Road is the same it’s awful! The amount of commercial vans left around here at night and on weekends and motor homes that sit outside your house and don’t move for weeks is very frustrating! We need fair reasonably priced permit parking. Not so that it’s beneficial for the council but so it is for residents here. There will be a serious accident in the colony’s one day with all the cars parked on the corners on double yellows. You cannot see what’s coming down the road as you pull out. Also cars/vans blocking access lanes is very dangerous! It’s a massive hazard in this area that’s needs sorting and permit parking to stop non residents parking is the answer!

My husband works nights and often has to park as far away as Phear Park because people would rather used our streets than the train station car park

I have lived in the colonies for over 10 years. I regularly can’t park after work, when i leave in the morning my space is immediately taken by someone parking for the train station or working in the town. Coming home late at night not being able to park is horrendous. At weekends i daren’t move my car as i can then never park again!

We need resident parking permits not only in all The Colony streets - but also Imperial Road, St. Andrews Rd,Victoria Rd, Morton Road (where many residents generally do not have garages or their own parking spaces). There are perfectly adequate council car parks (and also the Marks and Spencer car park), for all tourists, shoppers, visitors and workers coming into Central Exmouth. Bournemouth, Brighton and other seaside towns have effective resident parking permit systems - and we can learn from their example. Why should it take Devon County Council yet "another year" to act? (especially when we know that the councils have acted on the Camperdown Car Park last year, The Pavilion Car Park this year - and is imminently providing bespoke campervan bays etc.). Is this something the Town Council can vigorously support - and motivate Devon County Council to act please?

I very much support the need for parking permits as its a nightmare.

I’m fully in favour of resident parking ‘in all of the The Colony ‘ Streets and Roads. I suggest (Propose): “All households (Council Tax Payers [or their Rental Occupants]) are permitted one car/vehicle as part of their Council Tax allowance (Gratis), then further vehicles at an additional cost (pro rata); Commercial Vehicles (unless the Council Tax/homeowner declares this is their Primary Vehicle) do not fall into this bracket.” Thoughts?

Have had enough of having trouble finding parking

Fed up with outsiders parking in a residential area that do not live here . Lived in the same house all my life and the cars, vans are getting worse by the day. I have parking at the back of the house but sometimes can't use as lanes blocked even clearly stated keep clear across the lanes . The council should be making outsiders use the car parks to make revenue for the town . Family can't visit as no where to park or when find somewhere it's normally in the car park . Bloody joke . Fed up with it . Something needs sorting with the whole of Exmouth town centre streets all should be residential parking .

I live here and have done for over 40 years. I am so fed up of driving around the colony looking for a space to park my car because people who don’t live here have parked to go to work, shopping, the gym or catching the train. Why should people who live here have to go and park on Exeter road half hour parking as there is nowhere else to go and then keep moving. Why can’t the councillors get a move on with residents parking?

Home owners should be able to park outside their own property and not have to drive/ hunt around for a space which has been taken by shoppers who won't use a car park.

We have lived in Salisbury Road for 45 years and the parking situation has got steadily worse and now it is totally unbearable. Fed up with people parking here to go shopping or to work or catch the train. I think there should be 1 permit per house plus a visitors permit each.

Getting sick of not being able to park were u live!! And having other people having ago at me when parking when they are only there to shop I actually live here!!

Living in the Colonies on Salisbury Road

It would be great to pop somewhere in the car and not come back and drive round and round and round looking for a space each tim

I am an Exmouth resident and have lived in Halsdon Rd since 1995. Parking has become increasingly more difficult and due to people's desperation to park or to save money by not paying for car parks people will park on corners blocking vision or obstruct alleyways. I work long hospital shifts and i dread returning home, especially on a weekend, due to the constant struggle to find a space which is frustrating.
