There are three way we can fight the increase above the guideline: 1. it is a capital expenditure or not? 2. does it fall in the period specified? 3. is the value correct? (most likely yes, Ranee will not present fake bills) Any other talk is time consuming and doesn't add value to the issue presented here. people, this is not the time or place to complain about stained bathroom, smelly hallways , kitchen cabinets or lack of maintenance. This petition was open to address a time sensitive issue. If we do not focus on the three way of fighting this, we are going to lose in court, where Ranee most likely will come with a lawyer and a very well structure case.

jovan tomic You only need to pay 1.8% increase for 2018 and 2019. If you have been paying more you have over-payed.

We are not legally obligated to pay 4.8% increase until there is a court order and so I dont. The customary/guideline increase for 2019 is 1.8% and that is all residents need to be paying legally at this moment.

Been living in 1850 bloor st since 2004, the want to increase rent, how about doing proper repairs on units of long time tenants first. Getting new floors in the kitchen was like pulling teeth, bathroom had been renovated but is worse then before. Could use new kitchen cabinets considering new tenants are moving in to new kitchens.

Let's focus to the issue at hand: legally, Ranee is entitled to apply for rent increase above the guidelines for capital expenditure. Going in court with "revolutionary" approach ("STOP THIS INCREASE. IT IS NOT RIGHT! " or "stop corporate greed!!!") is not going to help. The judge wants to hear LEGAL arguments . So, I suggest let's hire ASAP a legal counselor.

This place is disgusting. I have seen cockroaches crawl out of the sink in the laundry room. The water has turned my white dish drying rack red. There is mold in my bathroom that’s been covered up by paint. I have come across bottles of urine at the back of the building. We paid for landscaping and maintenance but yet the grass is dead from not being watered over long periods of time and then being over watered because the sprinklers have been forgotten about. My hallway smells to the point where I literally gag and have to hold my breathe before I exit my apartment. Ventilation in my bathroom wasn’t fixed for months. It was only until I threatened to go to the tenant board that they all of a sudden were able to fix it. The men who came to do the job literally told me how filthy the vents are and we are ALL breathing this in our apartments. They want more money but yet do anything that actually requires fixing.

Oscar . Building 1840 Ranee only replace the panels of the balconies . The floor remains unrepaired and with holes and broken parts . My tub is old with oxid parts and stains that I couldn't remove even trying with everything . The bathroom odor extractor never worked since i live here from 2011 The building doesn't have a clear and big enough sign and lightining . Many UBER drivers and visitors go from one building to the other trying to find the number 1840 . I accepted these conditions because not big increases in the rent but why such increase in the rent with so many weak points in these buildings .

Some numbers to consider. Honorary of a paralegal/lawyer may vary between $100-$250/hour, spending 10hrs or plus (research & representation). A paralegal would cost $1,000 (consultation & representation), a lawyer at least double. 100 tenants x $10 may cover $1,000 cost. Alternative math is possible. The big question is: who is willing to engage in funding? So far, I know only 10 people willing to pay for legal aid. Tenants with low income may qualify for legal aid certificates but it is a little bit late for this. Some tenants have been tried hard to reach the others since last October...

1402-1840 This building group have the nerve to increase the rent more than allowed when basic maintenance isn't performed on a regular basis. The underground parking entrance to the building doors are always falling apart and need to be accessible. The garage doors look to have 1970s technology and is out of service on a regular basis.

STOP THIS INCREASE. IT IS NOT RIGHT! I do not want to lose my home but if Ranee keeps charging us for everything that only benefits them dollar wise i.e. equity, then many of us could be out in the cold. What the hell, they don't care. We are nothing to them anyway.

I have been in this building for years and have seen many owners who have NEVER done anything like this to their tenants. I believe Ranee is adding equity to these buildings so that when they sell us out they will earn more money. Do we get a share of the equity on this building since they want us to pay for it? They advertise that they have done "luxury" renovations BUT the walls need repainting and the doors are so scratched and they do not fix them when new tenants come in. HOW IS THAT LUXURY? Also they do not clean windows or balconies for new tenants. Also the light fixtures they put in are the same in the laundry room (which if filthy) and in the hallways. BUT THAT IS LUXURY - right? Management at H.O. never returns phone calls about problems we have here. There is no need to charge tenants for these balconies. Who complained? Let them come forth. Management said that the panels on the old balconies came loose but that would be impossible since they were welded together. I have photos. Lies - all lies. This used to be a happy place to live BUT now we have lived with Cockroaches, a moth infestation which cost me 2 Oriental carpets worth several thousand dollars. Now we have had ANTS for the last couple of years. This is disgusting. A lady from 1850 said her building & apartment have bedbugs. HOW IS THAT LIVING IN A LUXURY BUILDING? There are many tenants in this building who are between ages 75 - 95 and you are pricing them out. Does Ranee even care about the people who rent here or just the almighty buck. I think we all know the answer to that one.

1840 resident.. we are on the top floor and the roof is always leaking (summer spring and fall from rain and winter melting snow)... the balcony repairs are a joke.. pretty much destroyed the balcony left it dirty and strained with numerous cracks... also the water is shut off atleast once a week for "emergency" repairs... side door is either always unlocked or the lock is broken forcing us to walk around the building to get into the front door
