Restore Edmonton's Democracy: Rescind. Rethink. Redo

My neighbours and i have felt unheard and disrespected. It has caused us much stress and sadness. We want infill with sustainable housing and infill that will encourage positive encounters with neighbours and maintain our strong sense of community. We know random, overcrowded, treeless, poor quality housing will take the joy out of our neighbourhoods, and result in an anxious, unhappy less productive population. Those who are most resourceful will leave.

The rushed housing projects in mature neighborhoods are crushing the character that made these neighbourhoods desirable in the first place. Certainly ironic considering the push for more housing here specifically is because it's a desirable neighborhood. Densification is good for the city, but it's sad to see sweeping changes to these well established beautiful communities with no consultation. The 8plexes that are currently allowed are the size of a small low rise apartment. In the newer developed suburbs that have HOA's that would never be allowed. Apartments aren't built in the middle of bungalow houses, and neither should these. Besides the aesthetics and preservation of character, there seems to be no consideration for parking or waste removal. Most streets in this area are one side parking only, how do you cram potentially 16 more cars onto one street?

Infills are one thing, but large 8-12 plex townhome units are a bit outrageous

Considering we are having quite a few of infills being done in our area I feel a step back should be taken to the size of the 8 plexes and the area parking and increased traffic this will bring to residential area

Expansion and diversification need to happen in the city. The neighborhoods also need to be fit to provide the expansion. Things like parking, access to ETS, grocery and health facilities need to be taken into consideration for what is built and where.

We do not need 8 plexes in our neighborhood. What about parking? Many streets are turning into bike lanes and one way.

Adding an 8-plex unit to a 33 ft wide lot is not appropriate. The ones currently under construction have no parking, and don't even have enough room to place the 16 garbage bins that will be required in the back alley. 4 units are fine, 8 units in a mature neighbourhood on a small lot is not.

These 8 unit complexes are not wanted in our communities. You've heard the overwhelming voices opposing them. The condensing is too much. Too much traffic, too many garbage bins, too many people. Schools will need to be made to accommodate a lot more kids in the area. So many things. Quiet neighborhoods quickly will not be so nice and quiet. Council does not own the city, they work for us. Engagement should mean listening to what the majority paying taxes want.

As usuual with the City the 'consultations' were nothing but a poor sales job managed by consultantants with predetermined results.

The “Proposed Rezoning” for the project at 11150 62 Street NW in Highlands, must be stopped. I’m shocked such an inappropriate location has even been considered, much less moved forward. The East Edmonton Health Centre for such a facility would actually make sense and could keep costs down. The proposed rezoning at 111 Avenue and 62 Street is so poorly thought out it’s silly. As a resident 4 blocks away for 17 years, I will protest this dumb idea until it is stopped. Highlands residents whose homes are closer, must be livid. This facility across from a kiddy park would decrease property values for blocks in every direction. Do not rezone that lot for this purpose.

Get rid of this city council

I support this petition and raise my voice against blanket rezoning with consultating citizens and residents of neighborhood

This affects me as they want to build a 3 story 9 unit on a 33 by 175 lot with no allowance for parking on a street that only parks on one side.

Being a retired realtor and builder, I am so sad and mad at the city for allowing the destruction of the mature neighborhoods in our city.

Totally opposed to the extensive building allowances now approved for a single lot. 8-10 units is simply ludicrous.

Every time a house comes up for sale in my neighborhood I worry about potential infill housing. I moved to this area 4years ago because it is a lovely, quiet neighborhood and the thought of an 8-plex disrupting the parking and peaceful feeling of the area is disturbing. In addition to concerns about infill housing I am also concerned about businesses being allowed in the neighborhood without consultation ( a daycare is opening down the street and there was no communication to neighbours).

The lack of regulations on the infills are making the desirable neighbourhoods much less desirable
