Jaimie was given a two-day suspension, ban from Senior Reflections night, possible withholding of her diploma, and five hours of community service—all for a spatula knife in her car to return to a classmate and the suspicion that it would be used in the senior prank. This is unacceptable and unnecessarily punitive and sets a dangerous precedent for similar incidents in the future. We plan to petition Mr. Campbell to rescind the possible withholding of Jaimie's diploma and five hours of community service and clear the two-day suspension from her disciplinary record.

As a Las Lomas alum, and current college student, I can understand where Campbell and the administration are coming from. However, context is extremely important to situations like this one. Knives on campus can be perceived as a threat or pose a real one, but in reality a zero tolerance policy ignores extenuating circumstances and, in this case, places individuals with neither intent to do wrong, nor actions that could be perceived as threatening, under a punitive spotlight that shames them for actions that objectively did not pose a direct threat to anyone. I am not saying that actions should not have consequences, but given the context of the situation, the punishment is unjust, and the administration must backtrack and reconsider its position, both in this case, and generally.
I took a class with Jamie. She is the last person that would seek to do harm to people.
This seems like excessive and unnecessary punishment for having a kitchen utensil in a car.
Jaimie Brooding is the least likely person in the senior class to use a knife in any way that would hurt someone. Mr. Cambell is only doing this so he can dish out some punishment for the senior prank. It is absolutely ridiculous the punishment she is getting for it. I believe this is downright wrong and the school should be ashamed.
As a parent the school needs to set a standard of a no tolerance towards weapons on campus. What Jaimie had was clearly a bbq set.
Seems like the punishment does not fit the crime…as there was no crime...
This isn't tolerable, the possibilities of danger that a spatula knife can present are too high for the school to even allow this student to graduate. She obviously planned on taking over the school and dethroning Campbell as principal. She's a madwoman and I'm glad the school was able to stop her shenanigans before they truly got out of hand. Thank you once again for keeping our school safe from common kitchen utensils.

This is way too extreme!!!! Punishment for having something harmless IN HER CAR??? For SUSPICION she would use it? No.
