This petition is to raise support for Tony Bennett to speak during Finals Weekend (May 17-19). Along with the impressive and accomplished speakers that are already booked, us signees are petitioning President Ryan and the Fourth-Year Trustees to request Tony Bennett to speak either Friday or Saturday/Sunday.
All members of the UVA community are welcome to sign: students, relatives who will be attending graduation, professors, etc.

Reaching this level of support feels surreal given how much resistance we initially faced. I am exhausted by the constant uphill climb but seeing this momentum grow makes the struggle feel worth the effort.

As the parent of a graduating senior and a 2013 alum, it would be an absolute honor to attend a graduation weekend ceremony at which Coach Bennett is a speaker. In this extra special year, nothing would make the weekend more special, and Mr. Jefferson more proud, than to have the coach who took the UVA men’s basket ball to the finals AND WON, say a few words of encouragement to the graduates.
Mr. Bennett’s dignified style of coaching, his demonstrated commitment to ethics, hard work and fair play, and his dedication to The University would make him a superb speaker during graduation weekend.
Mamadi Diakite made a promise to me our first year in Ohill that he would help deliver a championship before I graduated. Mamadi made good on that promise simply because a coach like Tony Bennett made it possible. Tony Bennett absolutely NEEDS to speak graduation weekend.
As a former Uva athlete I think this idea is wonderful given that the adversity conquered. Great message for students entering the real world
This is my 2nd child graduating from UVA (out of state- from GA). This is a very special centennial year and warrants a speaker of this caliber, and achievement- a memorable moment and year!

As a 4th year parent, the inspiration that he provided to the students was unmatched by any basketball game or sporting event. He and his wife stand out among the UVA community as involved, caring and supportive individuals offering leadership and true character.
