LOVE this!! STC needs to better educate their white students on the reality of the very real racism that continues to occur while ACTIVELY celebrating and supporting their black students/faculty/staff and others in the community

St. Catherine’s was my home for 3 years. Unity was a big part of why that home was so special. The friends I made there are my friends to this day. Please be mindful about preserving and pursuing diversity.

I have vivid memories of racism at St. Catherine's from my 13 years there, with no outlet for support within the school outside of my few fellow black students. These initiatives are a good start in terms of providing the support that was lacking and sorely needed when I was there.

No one should have to ask permission for basic necessities at school: social and emotional care, equal opportunity to succeed, and anti-racist policies that allow individual growth despite one’s race or ethnicity. In a majority minority city such as Richmond, things would be so much better if those in positions of power desired it to be that way. Do better Richmond.
My experience was that you had to be twice as good to get 1/2 as far. Seems that is what young alumni also have experienced. What a shame not much changed in all these years. Good on you all for speaking up. You are full members-you don’t need permission.
Thank goodness for the white faculty members that treated me as a full human, not “a tough nut to crack” as one teacher phrased it. The allies were there all along, but now I don’t know how many are left.
I put my faith in the young alumni. You are the way forward. Keep going!
