This petition is more than reasonable - I think it’s a baseline expectation. When I was at St. Catherine’s, my favorite class was a semester on the Harlem Renaissance. The exposure to authors outside my previous worldview was transformative. Even then, though, I remember being struck by how odd it was that it was being taught by a white man. He was an excellent teacher, but it was still something that struck me as a missed opportunity. I didn’t know that there were no high school faculty of color on staff at present - that’s incredibly disappointing. I’d start right there. Thank you Ava, and others, for outlining such a thoughtful and actionable petition.

All of these things would have been so helpful when I was at St. C

I attended St. Catherine's for 13 years and graduated in 1994. These changes are long overdue. Let us Black alumnae know how we can help.

There is a fund at st cats called the "Student Supprot Fund" (I believe) that is directed towards helping keep students on scholarship there by supporting the additional necessities that their tuition doesn’t cover...it should help allow them to not only stay there but also try to experience similar opportunities that more privileged students have, such as Xterm trips, transportation, money for a prom dress, sports equipment, and other things. If your parents already donate annually you could ask them to donate to this fund in particular if you are interested. Not enough people know about this fund and there is a need to grow it and perhaps expand it, so let's get started!

Thank you AVA and all the ladies that took part in helping to formulate these minimum of expectations. Things that will only improve the school.

While Saint Catherine’s and Saint Christophers has done things to improve its diversity, I believe that there is more that can be done. I hope that both schools can take strategic access to address the racial climate in America and society today. Many of the minority students are feeling the effects of a racist society but feel unheard. Many times I’ve heard that Saint Christophers that I don’t see color, but that is the very problem. The schools need their students and teachers to see color purposefully but to see it in a positive light. That way they can better understand what that black man or woman is dealing with on a daily basis. Only then can change come!

It is and has been time for St. Catherine's to adopt these proposals. #BlackLivesMatter
