I went to this institution k-12, and I can honestly say that your history lessons failed me. I know there is a curriculum that needs to be followed but that does not mean that is the only information you're allowed give your students- do not whitewash history.

Do better STC. Don’t tell your black students “to just take it” or “to be the bigger person” in the face of racism. Don’t silence your students for the sake of donors. Don’t tell your students to value integrity while the school itself sacrifices its own.

I am a graduate of St. Catherine’s School (class of 2004). These steps are a minimum and I urge you to take each of them to actively work towards making St. Catherine’s a school that supports, nurtures and celebrates black girls. That would be a school that I could say I am proud to have graduated from.

The time is now for us to do the work to learn our complete history. Where we ALL came to form this union we call the USA.
It starts in the heart of predominantly white educational institutions. Race Equity work is needed now more than ever. It will be difficult but it will be worth the struggle.

So grateful for my peers that taught me to think critically about St. Catherine’s as an institution, many of whom were BIPOC. I loved my experience at STC, but I refuse to support the school now or ever in the future if they don’t take action to address the pervasive racism at the school. Thank you, Ava.

I was reminded last night of the amazing opportunity St. Catherine’s provided students back in 2004 I believe to listen to Ms. Ruby Bridges speak. Though St. Catherine’s often uses language and photo ops to signal inclusiveness and equity, I don’t believe the school is always “walking the walk.” I want to see positive changes made to not only better support BIPOC students and their families, but also our surrounding Richmond community rather than largely remaining within its West End bubble.

Shuttling students of color to diversity conferences is nowhere near implementing anti-racist culture at STC, which is what's needed. Rhetoric around diversity and inclusion might bring Black and brown students in, but it does nothing to create a space for BIPOC students to thrive.

Class of 2016. YES!!!!!!!!! St. Catherine's commitment to "well-rounded girls" currently only extends to white students. Black students deserve so so so much better. Super reasonable demands, please lmk how else I can help!
