Many Catholic schools in Portland and around the country have chosen to instate non-discrimination policies that protect LGBTQ staff and students. This is a request that St. Mary's Academy create a formal policy to protect all community members against descrimination.
SMA: Carry through and implement the values you teach my daughter: compassion, integrity, acceptance, tolerance, leadership and grace.

Very sad day. This is not the SMA I have known for three decades. If the Catholic Church kicked out all the gay and lesbian persons working in its institutions, we would have way fewer cardinals, bishops, priests, sisters, parish workers and teachers. Is that what Jesus would want? I think not. Pope Francis is leading the way toward healing this painful issue. It is mystifying to me that SMA would take a different direction.

Please, SMA. LGBTQ staff and students deserve just as much protection and support as any other staff member or student.

I have friends who attended St Mary's, 2 nieces graduated from St Mary's, 2 grandnieces graduated from St Mary's. They are all strong dynamic woman and feel grateful for all they learned at this institution for young woman, to believe in themselves, and to achieve great things. I am saddened that this school has let them down. The church may not yet allow same sex marriage, yet. But surely it is against bigotry and discrimination and that is what you are guilty of, bigotry and discrimination. Many others have quoted the Pope to you on this topic, so I won't. But I hope you read the quote as many times as it is posted. And, really? Didn't you pay attention to what just happened in San Francisco? Create a policy NOW to protect all community member against discrimination

The St. Mary's I knew would never act like this. Maybe a change like this would return the school to a loving and safe environment.

In the words of the Pope, who am I to judge?Hiring a teacher should be based off of their ability to teach, regardless of their identity and orientation.

Outrageous how Principal of SMA revoked the job offer. Absolutely disgusted with that. Brown should have the opportunity to work in any environment regardless of sexual orientation, gender or color, etc.
