65% failure rate is insane. something is clearly wrong with how the course is being structured.

+1 yr on one's degree means more than a million extra in spending and some students potentially having to seek employment while studying to fund their education. I might add that this one fail might even mean the end of the university journey for some. Furthermore university is hard mayyne. First time living alone, managing a household, being responsible for one's self and facing so many of life's problems alone for many. Additionally you got your academic stress, financial stress etc., to contend with throughout all of this. So although as a lecturer, one could argue they maybe could have and should have put more effort in knowing the stakes and are hence probably not really deserving of this second chance, I am here to strongly advocate for a second chance for the 150+ students that will suffer dire consequences as a result of this singular fail being put on their transcript.
