As/A-Level exams should be cancelled this year due to the ongoing war and the conditions students are facing. Over the past month, we have had to switch to online learning, and this has now been extended until April 17. This disruption has made it extremely difficult to stay focused, maintain a proper study routine, and receive the same quality of education as normal in-person learning. On top of that, the stress and uncertainty caused by the current situation are affecting students’ mental well-being, which directly impacts performance. Exams are meant to be taken under fair and stable conditions, and that is clearly not the case right now. It would be much more fair to assess students through alternative methods that reflect their abilities without putting them at a disadvantage due to circumstances beyond their control.

I strongly feel that board exams in the UAE should be reconsidered or canceled because students like us are constantly dealing with anxiety and stress about the future. Every day, we find ourselves repeatedly checking the news just to make sure everything around us is safe, and during study time, the constant alerts and sounds are extremely overwhelming. We are genuinely trying our best to focus, revise, and prepare fully for our exams, but the mental pressure does not go away, we are always thinking about when things will finally feel normal again. Recently, many boards such as CBSE, ICSE, IB and others have canceled exams considering similar safety concerns, and it feels unfair that we are not being given the same consideration when we are facing the same uncertainties. This is not an excuse to avoid studying; in fact, my friends and I have consistently worked hard, followed strict daily schedules, and stayed committed to our academics even through online classes. However, I believe it is equally important to prioritize student safety and mental health, just as it has been done for others, because the current situation is taking a real toll on all of us.

Due to the current situation around us I am facing difficulty mentally adjusting (severe anxiety), I fear it could have an unfair impact on my exam results.

This has been an exhausting month of mental gymnastics and trying to force myself to study just to not fall behind. It’s incredibly stressful.
