Request for Cancellation or Alternative Assessment for IB May 2026 Exams in the Middle East

The ongoing situation is getting far worse each day. It is not suitable for such conditions to go to school or do an exam. An alternative would be nice.

Please cancel the exams, the on-going conflict is impacting everyone's mental health, and we have lost time in school for revision, IA's, content, and support. We are not prepared to sit these exams safely- mentally and physically.

Please cancel IB exams, during this critical situation it has been quite hard for me to focus on my academics and myself. Canceling the exams would be beneficial for me and many other peers.

As an IB student living in the Middle East, I would say the past few weeks have been devastating for all of us. Even if we may eventually have the chance to go back to school in-person, we will have barely enough time to revise content, cover missing content, and be prepared with question practice for the exam. Being at home or at school is not only about safety, it is about the shock students remain to have about the ongoing situations, the continous distraction and panicking, and therefore the level of knowledge and depth of understanding portrayed in the student's work in the exam will not be true to their full potential. As an IB student, we have always been taught and educated on global issues and the IB's open-mindedness and understanding, and therefore I ask the IB to take action on this basis. Offering extended submission deadline for IA etc. is not helpful for all, as many students have already submitted their work long ago, and travelling to other schools or sitting for later exams is not an option for all students, due to the closed airports and university requirements. I speak on behalf of all of IB students that IB should not only consider safety and severity, but also how this will effect student performance in the upcoming May Examinations, not presenting their true potential. This is truly unfair for everyone and its important for IB to consider student wellbeing.

Being an IB student in Egypt, I am a great proponent of this petition and feel that Egypt must equally be considered in the region or a different evaluation practice. Even though Egypt is not directly listed as a country that is directly affected, there are numerous students in this country who are not studying under the standardized academic environment. The students in certain schools are merely attending three days a week and in other instances school days have been already cancelled or disrupted. This implies that most of us are being given less teaching time, teacher attention and more unstable learning atmosphere than unaffected IB students in other regions. This is not merely a question of whether exams can be held physically or not. Another question is whether the students in the rest of the region have been given a just and equal chance to prepare one of the most challenging academic programmes in the world. IB had never neglected fairness, equity, and student wellbeing. We are requesting the IBO to appreciate that the impacts of the instability in the region go beyond the current list of countries and that the students in nations such as Egypt are also being impacted by a genuine academic disadvantage as they prepare towards the May 2026 examinations. We hopefully request the IB to take into account Egypt in the eventual regional concessions, contingency plans or alternative evaluation routes.
