Request for Cancellation or Alternative Assessment for IB May 2026 Exams in the Middle East

Nah, let the e-assessments happen, because many of the people in UAE, actually some infact did terrible in the finals, the E-assessments is our chance to get a good score for once, don't ruin that chance for us please

During times of war, focus and proper study are difficult for students, especially those who have never experienced a conflict like this before. Transferring to a different IB World School or deferring to November exams/choosing not to do exams is simply not an option for most students and cannot be the only resolution on behalf of the IB. Cancellation of exams and the use of assessed grades should be the path for IB May 2026 Middle East candidates!

We, as IB students, are asking for the cancellation of upcoming exams due to the ongoing war and its impact on our mental well-being and ability to perform. Over the past month, it has become increasingly difficult to focus on our studies while constantly being exposed to distressing news, fear, and uncertainty. This situation has not only affected our concentration, but also our emotional and psychological state. Many of us are dealing with anxiety, lack of sleep, and a constant sense of unease, which makes preparing for high-stakes exams extremely overwhelming. IB exams are meant to assess our knowledge and capabilities under fair conditions. However, the current circumstances are far from fair. We are expected to perform at our best while carrying emotional stress that is completely out of our control. It is not just about being “distracted” it genuinely feels impossible at times to sit and revise while everything happening around us weighs so heavily on our minds. We are also aware that some proposed “solutions,” such as traveling to sit exams elsewhere or temporarily relocating, are simply not realistic or accessible for everyone. Not all students have the financial means, safety, or flexibility to leave their homes, and it is unfair to create a situation where only some students can escape these conditions while others cannot. This creates an unequal playing field, which goes against the core values of fairness that the IB stands for. We are not asking for an easier path, but for a fair one. Other cohorts in the past have been given adjusted assessment methods during times of global crisis, and we believe the same consideration should be extended to us. Our predicted grades, coursework, and internal assessments already reflect our academic abilities and the effort we have put in over the past two years. As IB students in the Gulf region, we are experiencing significantly higher levels of stress compared to our peers in other parts of the world. The academic pressure, combined with regional circumstances and expectations, places us at a clear disadvantage. Adding the burden of May 2026 examinations on top of this creates an unfair and unequal situation for students globally. The IB presents itself as an international organisation that upholds fairness and equity, yet the current circumstances do not reflect an even playing field for all students. We urge the IB to take these disparities into serious consideration and act in the best interests of student wellbeing by cancelling the May 2026 exams.

It sound unrealistic to even let us write the exams.

The war has caused uncertainty towards being able to travel safely or even stay in the country as it’s very unsafe, it’s real affected my mental health as a result I’m more concerned for my safety and less attention has been given to doing exams and revising
