The BART Board of Directors is considering pushing back the start of weekday service from 4am to 5am to accommodate their system-wide refurbishment project. BART should have done a better job of maintaining their system from the start; now they want to disrupt the commutes of thousands of early morning riders so that they can catch up. There are plenty of riders on BART in the 4 o'clock hour: construction workers, muni drivers and passengers heading to the airport, not to mention countless professionals with early start times. To deem these riders "collateral damage" and subject them to Bay Area traffic and parking isn't just inconsiderate, it's bad business.

There have to be other options besides this drastic move: compromise with 30 minutes shaved off of the evening service end and the morning service start; an acceptable partnership with AC transit to provide bus service...just to name a few.

If your commute would be adversely affected by BART pushing back their service start time by an hour, please sign this online petition and send a message to the BART Board of Directors.

BART needed from 4am from airport to Embarcadero. Only reliable means of transport during early hours and essential for anyone working in Finance (east coast hours).

I live in Hercules and need to be at work at 5:30am in San Francisco Transamerica building. This will cause me to be late by over half-an-hour which is not good for my work, customers, or me.

Bart directors: Have you ever taken the early morning trains? If you had, you'd realize that they are full. Telling thousands of commuters and employers that they will just have to deal with the delayed start time is just not an option.

I also work NY hours in the financial services industry. I do not want to pay $400+ monthly parking costs to drive in and park, or have the hassle of getting out of SF to the freeways in the afternoon. If you MUST take an hour away for more track repair time, take it out of the last hour. I believe there is less impact there.

This move will impact many workers from a diverse mix of industries. The first trains are packed to the gills already w muni drivers, construction works, corporate folks - plz fina another solution - you will put so many more cars on the road and jam up SF streets - the collateral damage will not be worth it.

My job requires that I be in San Francisco at 5 am as I work for stock traders that work NY market hours. As an IT professional Bart is the only economical way to commute from my far east bay residence. a shift to a 5 am train start would affect my financial status dramatically.

Not able to get to work on time with this change. What about ending service an hour earlier, does it affect more or less people doing that??
