Repeal or Revise the Beech Mountain 2022-2023 budget

This is taxation without representation!

I am a property owner but not a full time resident so I can’t vote in local elections. But I can financially support the campaigns of candidates who take into consideration the needs of all residents.

Many of the FT residents live on fixed incomes and have owned their homes for many years. Why punish the Locals for the artificially inflated home prices and strain on community services caused by the STR craze.

I’m retired and live full time on Beech Mountain. I do not rent.

My house is a very small modest home between 2 recently sold large elegant homes. My property was valued at the value of those 2 though mine is half or less the size of those homes. My house is probably valued at half their assessment. I missed the deadline to appeal because of the serious illness of my companion. I shudder to think what my tax bill will be.

Housing market has hit the bubble and is now trending back to reality.

What is the basis for this excessive tax hike? No evidence that the city is unstable or in fiscal crisis; no heavy debt service, and can't find disclosures on what money will be utilized for (or specific infrastructure/economic development uses, etc.) In an economic downturn with recession knocking on our doors, now is not the time to pull this irresponsible stunt.

Agree, for us it is a 68% increase in taxes owed. Absolutely ridiculous. There isn't adequate transparency on what they intend to do with the additional revenue beyond a 13% pay increase for employees and the associated expenses that go along with that. I believe that capital improvements need to be paid for with bonds instead of raising taxes to pay as we go to the point of unsustainability. I will have to seriously consider selling if the county raises its rate as well.

Have they lost their ever loving minds?

Way too drastic of a year over year increase on property tax. Places an undue burden on citizens especially as the tourist market is teetering with the economy. Makes too great of an impact for those living here long term or trying to invest in a home for the future difficult. Like most tourists towns, it seems the focus should be on leveraging sales or use taxes like other destination locations around the country for people visiting the area.

The town has done just fine without this extra $3 million in revenue so far. Why the increase now? Does it have to do with improvements that were made to satisfy the Eagle nest developers? Paving that back road so that Eagles nest could get to the town and the ski resort? Make Eagles nest pay for it..

You think they care?

We need to have a grandfather clause for people making less than 50,000 and trying to live here. Long term owners..and still working at 74.

I hope we have notification that there is an election next time. Last year we only found out after 31 people voted. Too late then.
