Same issue. Convicted in 1990. Banned in 93? 25yrs later. No other issues, and married to the same women who helped, and believed in me. I agree violent offenders should have gun rights taken away for a period. Wes should be able to be restored after time as long as there are no repeat of same offence.

In 1999 I was conviced of Misdemeanor Battery against my girlfriend even though I never actually touched her. I've been banned, over 20 years, from owning a gun. My offense? Grabbing a wrist and being too broke to get a good lawyer.

5 year ban for first time convictions sounds fair. Second conviction, differant story.

While the Lautenberg Amendment should be abolished, perhaps a 5 year ban would be more realistic. People make mistakes in life. People also move on too.

Unconstitutional law that removes gun ownership for a misdemeanor

The Launtenberg Amendment is unconstitutional and should be amended. A domestic violence case should be based on facts at hand and habitual offenders and nature of the case. Factual evidence of the case are a necessity and should be considered when revoking someones 2nd amendment rights. Charging someone with domestic violence based soley on he said she said is not only dumb, it's going against everything the judicial system stands for.

1990 D.V. Conviction Dupage Co. Illinois. The Gf, was a Sociopath. Taking zanex and some other anti depressant. In court I did not fight my case well, I had a public defender only. Everyone favored the woman ..
