Time and time again charter schools are associated with worse outcomes for communities and the destruction of public schools that have been doing fine for decades. Shame on those so very eager to profit with charter schools!

Thank you for bringing this petition to CA. Those that lose out on a chance for a better eduction in their young adult lives brings about the biggest chance to make the future better. This ballot hopefully reaches as many people that it can and reaches out to more than just parents and those involved in education. This is an issue that affects the outcome of future tax paying voting citizens that could easily be unaware of the working classes need for viable and sustainable progresses. Voting now and being able to influence a generation of human beings to become more inclusive, less closed minded, and progressive oriented. The segregation of schools between whatever arbitrary line that divides communities benefits no one and results in irrational and convoluted practices in the future.

The are not taking OVER your school. They are offering parents and students a choice to get a better education when the traditional school is failing to do so. That goes for typical and special needs students. It's all about budget. The traditional school is upset because they are losing money to pay for their high budgets - mostly retirement. I can see why they are upset, but as I've stated in other comments... fix the problem before you attack a better solution. I am a mom who has made the charter a choice, by necessity since our neighborhood school failed.

First off, you don't have your facts straight... Charter schools are public schools. They are just public schools of choice. So... basically you are saying public schools are committing suicide. Now, to you point. The only reason Charter schools are growing in popularity is that traditional schools suck! Fix the problem rather attack a better solution.

Then you need to encourage traditional schools to actually do their job - teach our children, especially those with special needs.

MISLEADING comment. My 10 year old son is in a charter school with an IEP due to his disability. In a traditional school, he had been punished (suspended), some students tease him horribly, aides are pretty much clueless. He was placed in an isolated room for about 10 days of school, where they had him do 1 or 2 problems, then gave him their I-pad to look at roller coaster pictures. Where is the education people? You HAVE TO STOP blaming Charter schools for the demise of traditional schools. I personally know of dozens of disabled students in dozens of charter schools. They are getting educated and getting quality services to meet their IEP. This is also a problem in traditional schools. They often fail to meet IEP goals.

My experience with the charter school system has not been good. We have special needs kids with IEPs. The administrator of the charter school we dealt with refused to follow and implement my son's IEP accommodations. There was no oversight or accountability from the sponsoring school district. The teacher to student ratios are a lie. I do not agree with public charter schools acting like private schools.

So , do they "lie", or do they cover up "secrets"? Which is it? It can't be both.

I am a credentialed teacher that started my career in a poorly managed charter school and now work for a traditional public school district. I am so happy to see that there is a coalition trying to stop charter schools, students and families deserve better.
