As a teacher who worked at a charter school for four years, I can attest to how lack of regulation is inappropriate and counterproductive.

Stop holding public education accountable for all of the problems with US society today. Start supporting public education by offering a truly comprehensive education that includes not only college bound curriculum but curriculum that also supports those who are not college bound. Teach students job skills, family skills, skills that support hobbies. Support teachers in their efforts to meet the needs of all students. Stop the further segregation of students by skin color, income, and special needs. This is the only way to keep America strong. All people deserve the right to a free public education, one that is healthy, one that does not discriminate. Charter schools can do what they want regardless of the fact that our tax dollars support them. Stop funneling money away from public schools.

Extreme disciplinary actions (or what KIPP calls T.T.R where the child has to take off his or her shirt and put it on inside-out) indicating to peers and staff that the child is on disciplinary action, thus isolating the child and in many cases causing the child/student to experience: anxiety, social withdraw and a feeling of being unwanted. From my experience with both KIPP and Rocketship they will continue to target your child and the family of the child until they make it so uncomfortable for both the child/student and the student’s family that the family pulls out; or they force the child (student) out, by intimidation and/or harassment. I attempted to go higher up the ladder to address the extreme disciplinary actions, but KIPP’s administration refused to place the dates and times of the board meeting in a place that all can view and read. Which from my understanding is illegal; furthermore, the KIPP board meeting is held in SF at the GAP, which is approx. 75 miles from the school and for a family like mine that come from extreme humble beginnings and that utilizes public transportation, it would take me approx. 2.5 hours, possibly enabling me to address the board for approx. 60 seconds. I believe that charter schools have purposely set up their schools board meeting in a way that hinders families like mine access to direct contact with the school board. This is only one of the issues facing California Charter Schools. I can go on and on about how Charter School give the false impression…..that Charter schools are better that our current Public Schools. NOTE* my children are no longer attending Charter Schools and are now enrolled in the local public school system. Furthermore, my youngest child(son) is an adopted child with a diagnosis of Fetal alcohol syndrome (F.A.S) who was unfairly being targeted at Rocketship. My oldest is a 14 year old with ADHD with a 504 plan through Santa Clara County office of education, in which KIPP was not allowing for his acc

Charters are a poison designed to eventually destroy the entire concept of free, universal, not-for-profit public education. They are a Big Lie and must be stopped before they eliminate all local, parental and taxpayer control of our schools. PLEASE join with us to preserve the local, neighborhood school. Stop charters NOW!

Public schooling is a right! Instead of investing in elite charter schools, invest in ALL students, equally! There is no room for disenfranchising ANY student.

I have been following issues and research on charter schools for years and support this petition. A page under the EdReform tab of EduResearcher dot com includes information that may be helpful for this initiative.
