As City of Surrey has announced that indoor pools won't be reopen soon because City is struggling with the budget, we have an idea to bring ALL local water sport clubs into one building - Grandview Heights Pool - and use that pool as a host facility for all competitive an professional local sports: swimming, diving, synchro, waterpolo, triathlon. Based on preliminary calculations, clubs will be generating monthly between $60K to $100K of gross profit for the City of Surrey, which gonna be a big win-win game for everyone and positive social impact will be huge. This petition will be sent to MLAs of Surrey Community, Mayor of Surrey and Government of BC.

Seeing one hundred people sign this shows how desperate our community is to get our athletes back in the water. My heart aches every day we stay locked out of our local pool but seeing this turnout gives me real hope for a solution.

My son misses his team training sessions every single day and we need to push past this next milestone to prove the city officials cannot ignore our proposal. This amazing multi million dollar facility needs a reopening plan. The cost too operate versus the value of the capital asset is minimal. Lets find a way to reopen.
Please re-open the pool at least by September 1 when outdoor pools will longer be an option. Also, please do not forget about the needs of adults and seniorsfor lane swim time. Our health is just as important as that of the young people participating in the various clubs. We also pay taxes and membership dues.
My daughter needs to get back in the pool for water polo. All the other aquatic teams also need access to the pool, and the youth don’t even care if they can use the change rooms as they are used to coming out with a swim parka over their suit. This is a significant loss for my child and many tears have been shed over the now-indefinite loss of her sport!
I think the pool could be used safely by the swimming and diving teams, and it would provide some work for your staff. Also consider allowing adult length swimmers to book a lane for an hour .
As a parent of a National level athlete I feel it is imperative that these athletes have a facility in which to train and that denying them this right has a direct and significantly negative impact on both their development and ability to compete with other athletes around the country who’s facilities are available to them.
Laurie Cavan, Surrey's general manager of of Parks, Recreation and Culture told the Peace Arch News on February 4 (Thursday): "the Grandview Aquatic Center is set to reopen on February 9. (That's this coming Tuesday). The BC Government, on its covid-19 wbsite said on February 2 (last Tuesday) that covid cases have declined significantly in recent weeks and that this trend will continue with even further declines in the following days, weeks and months. The main drivers of this trend? Improved weather conditions, excellent compliance with mask wearing/social distancing and most important, the province's successful immunization strategy. Thank you Ms. Caven. I shall purchase a new bathing suit tomorrow in anticipation of my first swim (on February 9) in close to 1 year.

I'm a Surrey senior with osteoarthritis. I, and many others like me, used the pool several times a week before the shut down. Swimming is the only form of exercise that is not hard on my joints. If you want to help people like me stay healthy, PLEASE OPEN THE POOL & give seniors times when we can use it safely. THANKS.
