Having the street blocked of there during high tourist hours is much much safer for the tourists and the church same as blocking off bourbon at night.

I think if there were a real emergency that required the use of Royal street, people (including street musicians) would get out of the way of an emergency vehicle pretty quick.

The Royal Street performing scene is one of the reasons some of us make repeated visits to the city. Shutting it down for the reasons stated doesn't make sense - this is one decision that needs to be reversed quickly

Pretty soon the French quarter will be as generic as any other city!! Shut down Bourbon, prohibit street performers and have the place patrolled by an unqualified force of people who's sole agenda is to issue tickets. I vote to maintain the charm of our city and encourage the variety of options for tourists. The shops might suffer if there are fewer pedestrians too, in fact people come to New Orleans for it's charm and character and to hear music and see a variety of acts on the streets, it's entertainment they only have to pay a donation for. These performers have to eat and pay bills too!!
