Rent Control in long Beach

All of us need to get up and fight against Long Beach and its corruption; bringing up the rich and bringing down or sending out the poor. These are people that were born and brought up here, who have to leave. Higher rents, taxes, nowhere to park and nothing in return. We need to stop being week minded and be out there every day, Even 20 minute of door knocking in our neighborhoods, or even standing in front of house or nearest street corner with a sign, Support rent control. My grandmother is 95 years old and she had to fight nazis and communist at my age. But, she survived because she fought and didn't mess around. Shame on us and how dare we dont do more to get the word out there.

Rent control is badly needed in Long Beach. Property owners have various ways of maintaining their properties/investments while renters have none. It's an incredibly unfair situation!

The rent is ridiculous, and it should be a law against owner's raising the rent any time they want.

Just say NO to rent control. It will cost you more in the long run and puts small owners out of business and prevents improving the property. Please research the studies. Most studies conclude it hurts everyone in the long run.

Another problem is the population increase, lack of housing, and real estate rising costs. If you saved your money and bought a small investment building at current market value, you will have to make the business work so you don't go broke. Again, rent control punishes all of the small and medium owners who have worked years to finally get a return on their building. One reason for the rising costs is that the ASSESSOR raises property tax on investment buildings every year. The local cities raise fees every year. Insurance gets raised every year. This whole concept is punitive to individual owners who have to eat costs.

Rent control is a bad thing, this is why: small landlords get stuck with a fixed price instead of market value. Natural competition in the market works best for many reasons. Just like car dealers. The fact they compete against each other keeps the price down. The landlord will have to raise the rent every year according to the rent control just to keep up. Many times this is a disadvantage to the tenant. Small landlords who worked hard their whole life to have a 4 or 8 unit for their retirement end up forced to eat many costs. Why should anyone be forced to eat the costs of others. Another problem: the big investors come in and trick out units and displace tenants just to raise rents to the very top. This drives out small landlords who were reasonable to their tenants and can no longer make a small profit or afford to make repairs. If government wants to help with the problem, then everybody pitches in for housing or assistance instead of making small investors eat costs.

As if we need more gentrification (joggers w/ strollers, dog parks & Starbucks). Whatever happened to diversity? I'll had 3 increases in the last 3 years. ENOUGH!!!!!
