We, the undersigned, do hereby request that the Urbana School District #116, rename the Urbana High School Auditorium, "The Gregory S. Chew Theatre." For the past 35 years, Greg Chew has been the personification of theatre at Urbana High School. A dedicated educator, and an inspiration to generations of students who went on to new appreciations for, and careers in, the arts. In light of Mr. Chew's untimely passing - and his years of commitment to the students of Urbana High School - it is only fitting that the theatre he spent so much of his life in, should bear his name.

Seeing this grow makes me think of all the nights Greg spent working in those wings long after the house lights went down. This momentum confirms what I have known for years because it shows how many lives he truly touched.

I went ahead and signed this, to show my support for naming something significant after Greg Chew; but it's already a memorial, the Cobb Memorial Auditorium, and members of the Cobb family were present when it was re-opened a couple of years ago. Perhaps name the stage itself, or something else prominent?

I performed with Greg when was a student at UIUC. It was a Revels Players production directed by Prof. Michael Shapiro.

HE DESERVES IT. URBANA WOULDNT BE THE SAME WITHOUT HIM.

Greg changed my life when I was in drama. He was the best teacher I ever had at Urbana. This is the least we can do.

Given how much support there has been for this idea, we should, at the very least, let the school board know how passionately we feel about it. Whatever compromises they would need to make in order to facilitate this is out of our hands. This petition is to best represent the position of the many UHS alums who feel that this is right and proper. No disrespect is in any way intended towards the Cobb family.

Please share this on your social media pages, and bring this to the attention of the school board, if you are able.
