I’ll never forget the memories coach and for giving me a chance to display my talents on the varsity baseball team as an 8th grader when the Jv season ended. Then making me a starter in the 9th grade, in a time, where it was frowned upon... that’s how much you believed in me and that in itself meant the world to me as a growing young man. The realization I have come to is everyone that has been touched by Coach Rick Coker has a Rick Coker story.
He touched so many people in the course of his life.
I ponder over my life and my High School career and think of the role he played in my life and it leads to the point of “character.”
As a sophomore in High School on the way back from track practice and weight training he asked if I was interested in playing Varsity Baseball. Knowing that I have not played since my Dixie youth days I was hesitant. But he explained that he needed my leadership role amongst the young players that he was grooming.
So I figured it was “Coach” so I could not say no.
And with that I joined the baseball team and helped out in what way I could.
He had a way of seeing the best in you when nobody else could.
This was a unique trait that not many people in this world hold.
I’m forever grateful to the one and only Rick Guy Coker “Ratman”.
Naming the current Baseball field after Rick Coker would be a great gesture for a great Man.

Coach Ricky Coker was the heart of baseball at M.H.S. He loved the students and baseball. He was a friend to everyone. He was my coworker at the supermarket and the high school. We kept in touch. R.I.P., my buddy and friend.

I only got to speak to Coach Coker a handful of times since my time at Manning High but his impact on this community has been very obvious from the testimonies of his former players and students. Two years ago we held our first “Alumni Night” during a home game and his presence was the highlight of the weekend for those guys. I’ve enjoyed the stories that I’ve heard about him as a coach/teacher and it’s the things that all great educators strive for in their careers.
