Coach Coker was my high school English teacher for 2 years. His teaching has had a lasting impact on my life. I could write a book about all the things I loved and remember about him. The thing that has stood out in my mind most after his death is the following story. For about 9 weeks Coach Coker asked to keep a sort of journal. We had to turn it in each week and he would make a few comments. We could write about anything. I often wrote about the things going on in my life or just things that I had been thinking about. His comments were always encouraging and helpful. After the assignment was over I asked if I could just keep writing and turning them in. He agreed and I did each week for months. I just needed someone to talk to, someone to bounce ideas off of. He was there!
